Another "Mythical" -- which I''ve just realized I spelled "Mystical" in the photo name. LOL

And here''s where it gets interesting. Actually on the house, it looks a lot like the "Starset Original Purple Dream House".

deco- I'm soooo late to the party... but i'll still vote even though you've already decided
3.gif
I love yellow and white trims....

However, your house will look beautiful !!!!

ETA: just saw your picture with the green door, and I like a little punch of colors... so I like the green door

I still like both Deco, but my vote goes to mythical because SOMEONE has to be your CONSERVATIVE friend.

I like Mythical.

And here''s a mock up of Mythical w/ Kale Green door.

And here''s a mock up of Mythical w/ Kale Green door.
love it!

I like the Mythical too. I like the pumpkin color from earlier also..our living room is a burnt orange/pumpkin color, and lordy but I love it. Someone suggested the orange door and cream trim and I think that sounds great! Picking colors is so fun!

def like mythical now that I see it painted on actual house. I think the Plummy looks too whimsical vs. a real warm & liveable house feel. But I'm mostly a beige person, so who knows.

Mythical! DH and I can''t agree on the door color
3.gif

I so wanted the darker, more violet purple but I think Janine is right. Mythical looks more homey and warm.

Okay - narrow down the door choices (whee - it''s fun living vicariously lol)

You have in a basic sense:

white
black
and all shades of:
brown/cream
grey
blue
red
more purple
yellow
orange
red
green

as well as natural wood

Do you want your door to be a different color than your trim?
Do you want a colorful, bright, intense look?
How much vibrancy do you want to see when you come home every day?
Do you want a bright, clean white picket fence cottagey look?

are you leaning more toward the complementary green and/or orange?
what color flowers do you have in your yard? How will these colors flow together?

just a start - are you having fun?

CHARGERGRRL: Hey! I can’t believe its been three years either. Happy Anniversary to you guys too! Thanks for voting ... check out the latest photos & see they influence ya at all!

CEHRABEHRA: Aw thanks. He’s a keeper for sure. Are you sure you’re understated, lady? LOL

TACORI: I must say he hit a home run this year—and the guy skipped a Yankee playoff game for dinner & a movie to boot. Re: the orange door – we actually do sit in the living room with the inside door open sometimes. The screen door lets in a lot of air & light into the front part of the house. So the orange in a green room would be a problem 6 months out of the year. I’ll do some orange mock ups for curiosity sake but can’t really imagine doing it myself.

LAJENNIFER: Ha!! That’s a lot of Plummy & Orange. Its making me hungry.

MARA: Interesting theory! I’ve had paints work both ways for me – darker and washed out. I painted my dining room FOUR times before getting it “right”. Not sure if we could strip our original doors down to anything interesting. Will probably opt for a punchy color of some sort. At LEAST doors are easy to re-paint. Settling on the overall color is much more anxiety inducing.

STARSET: I can’t do orange. I cannot. I did try an interesting Peacock Blue today – will go back & do a mock up of that one. Leaning toward green though. If I go with Mythical maybe a strong green like the Kale Green would give “punch” rather than blend in the same tone – like a softer, greyer green would. Hmmmm. Thanks so much for all your help. Its really helping! And you’ve come over to the Mythical side! It does feel homey & warm. I’m digging it against the colors of our shrubs & stuff. So pretty.

JOFLIER: Thanks!

TRAVELINGGAL: Happy Anniversary to you & TGuy too! I was thinking of you guys on your anniversary. We’re inextricably linked! Its funny that you vote Mythical but like Plummy best. DH’s first reaction to Mythical was that its too light but I think that was just because he was seeing it against all the darker tones. That’s why I wanted to paint Mythical on its own & see how dark it appeared when not compared to the others. Kinda hoping that changes his mind a little as I’m drifting Mythical Way. Does that mean I’m turning, gasp, conservative too?

CDT1101: Thanks!

NEAT: That’s my worry too – about super sunny days & GLOWING violet or something. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I agree: life IS short.

APRIL20: Interesting about your raspberry washing out a bit on your house... its hard to guess which way the colors will go once all over, yanno? As groovy as the pumpkin would be I don’t think I can rock it. Interested how you’d like the peacock – gonna post that in a bit.

JANINEGIRLY: Thanks! I’m thinking white shutters & a medium green door. Or mayyybbbe a red door if we go with Mythical & its mild enough to carry a big kick of color on the two doors.

EBREE: Thanks!

PACKRAT: LOL. You pumpkin folk are persistent.

RISINGSUN: Thanks! How do you & the DH break down on doors?

Oh now THIS is gonna be fun, right Cehra?

Since Mythical is trouncing the competition currently -- I did all these door colors against it.

First column: Red Bay, Jadite, Loyal Blue, Chanticlear
Second column: Tabiz Teal, Pickle, Dewberry, Marquise Orange

ETA: Hmmm the picture quality isn't the best ...

Maybe this will help a bit?

truercolors.jpg

You did such a beautiful job on that!

Okay here are my thoughts on these...
First thought - I don''t like any of those
7.gif

Second thought - I think it has a LOT of information to help narrow it down.

First of all, I''m not sure that that shot of the mystic purple is as accurate as it was on your house.
Second, I really think you need to look at the tone of the purple with your eyes in different lightings and figure out what aspects of it you want to bring out... the reds... the blues... the grey... and how to do it.

Your favorite choices here are:

red
green
blue
and orange
(I suspect you threw the other purple in there for context)

Based on this should I assume that you want your trim to be white? That plays a factor too...

what about a darkish green trim and a white door? And then plant a lot of golden and mahogany mums or something :)

oh and if you like the orange door - just be careful that the colors really go well together up close and personal because if it's discordant it will be jarring... ask the opinion of several people who can see it in person.

add: lol that applies to all of the colors though

I was just looking at your brickwork at plummy... you may want to consider pulling your color out of that stone... finding something that coordinates tonally with the purple and yet is repeated in the brick. Maybe a golden creamy color for the trim? Before I thought of that I was on the white wavelength.

You know... having another thought lol... if the burnt orange begins turning into a rich brown, you could use that AND another lighter brighter (maybe that golden cream) or even white for around windows - almost using the orange in

bah i''ve lost my thought... maybe there''s something useful in that jumble lol

Cehra ...

1. We''re stuck with white trim because we''re not doing our windows right now, which are all painted white -- and we have a white picket fence so it all kinda makes sense with white.

2. The stone work foundation is only visible on the very back of the house. Three sides of the house you don''t see it at all -- so I wouldn''t probably base much on it.

3. There are bluestone walkways & planting bed "walls" everywhere around the house -- with charcoal greys, bluey greys & purplish veining. All of which will work well with a bluish purple.

4. The stones in the garden container beds are grey/white/tan

5. There is a dark brick red chimmney

6. Our existing planting containers are a mix of light sage green & terra cotta

7. Our adirondack swing & metal chairs are white -- table: yellow & red mixed broken pottery mosaic.

8. Unchangable plants are Lilac, Hydrangeas in pinks, Pink Peonys & a hot pink whatchamacallit - will come to me in a minute and assorted other pinky things. Usually I add big doses of dark purple & red & white to the mix in terms of annuals.

Does any of that help?

also may want to put a little mythical by the brick to help you choose your next color... or maybe near the front door so you can better visualize what it will be like to come home to different combinations.

I like the first red door! It is a nice, rich color and would compliment the purple. Think flowers, reds really look great in contrast with purples!
21.gif

do you plan to do a trim further down the line? if so - consider it when choosing a door color
however - I really like the white, there''s so much you can do with it and it keeps things light and bright :) Easy to coordinate too lol

Match the warmth of the purple in the color your heart likes best... no matter what you choose it will be perfect if it''s your dream. After you choose a basic color then you start fine tuning it with the shade and just make sure the tone is as close as it can be. That will give you harmony. If you choose a different brand paint - consider the texture of the paint and how that will be different.

Okay so fess up - which one is your favorite color?

Okay all of that said I have picked some favorites out of the original 8

Red Bay
Jadite
and I''d like to see other burnt orange options - that one has a conflict to my eyes (but it might not in person so consider that) Maybe if it was dustier and more muted to go with the purple... maybe I''m too rigid about tone but I find it so key to visual harmony.

I can't help but be drawn to the jadeite (first door, second column). I can't tell if it's because I like the color itself, or the teal and purple together, but it pops out at me.

ETA: I think it's just the color I like, as I prefer some of the other colors WITH the Mystical.

Pssst. I like Chanticlear. The bright blueish red. Its probably one of the more jarring, kitchy choices -- but it makes so much sense to me in terms of the rooms they open up to. In terms of what you see looking through window of the door that has glass up top (also red -- like it welcomes you into all the redness to come in the next two rooms). There are red accents throughout my house. Its probably my 2nd fave color & has so much vibrant energy & pep and passion. Its a "true" color vs the muddier Mythical - so it contrasts. I know that my flowers are going to be pink/red/white/violet/plum -- so it would work with that. DH's car is red. Dunno ... I just like it. Yet I fear mockery. I fear clown-car-ness.

My 2nd choice would be the Kale Green from above that TGal liked also. I've also considered black but thought its too conservative. White, but too boring. Yellow too crazy. Hmmm.

Perhaps it would help to see one of the doors in question ....

theactualdoorsilly.jpg

I like the Red Bay of the ones you posted..but to me, the Mythical you painted on your house looks different than in the mock up, so I''m not sure if I''d still like the Red Bay or not, in real life.

Hmph. I''m no help, sorry!

And here''s the chimney .. though I''m slightly worried folks will see these pictures & jump back on the "Stick with White & Green" wagon -- Kaleigh?
