Eeeekkkk...

No one has actually wanted this look since 2004.

Please, don''t do it.

Aw, no Fridays off for me... Well you have a lot of options and that hair is amazing and a great canvas to work with. I''m sure whatever you choose will look great!

I have to vote no, too. I still see it a lot in Vegas but on younger girls.

What she said...with a hug! There''s just something about this that doesn''t look edgy to me, but a little cheap. I think to look modern right now is to do something with the cut rather than the color (I heart Ashley Simpson-Wentz''s blunt cut).

I''m very supportive of edgy and trendy looks but that particular look just screams "SKANK" and I''m pretty sure that isn''t what you had in mind
2.gif

Shank. Cheap. Well no, I''ve successfully avoided both labels in my lifetime (and BOY was it a struggle let me tell you
3.gif
!)) but it might be fun to start!

Wonder what my hubby would think if I went Shank for a while.

Could be GREAT for my marriage.

LOL, Purrfect, you crack me up with the SKANK comment!

Hey Gypsy! Why don't you buy some cheap "SKANK" clip in highlights and put them in just for hubby as a treat? I don't think they're skanky but hey, they are fun looking. It'll also be a good test run for if you like them without making your actual hair the experiment. LOL. Heck, I wonder if DH would like me in SKANK-lights?

Instead of being Sup-A Granny, I'd be Sup-A Skank! *cackle*

I really really don''t like it either. I do love that last photo that you posted though-it looks gorgeous.

Hey, Gypsy, cruise through some of these galleries. There are some color re-dos in them.
My daughter just had this salon do a color correction on her hair and it turned out spectacular.
DD must have 3-4 different colors woven throughout her hair, but it looks natural, yet modern.
DD''d hair is past shoulder length, with a few layers on top.

I would love this for you:
I could try that.

See this is very nice, and I REALLY think it''s elegant and it''s what my mother and aunt suggested, but I wanted to do something funkier but it might not be meant to be.
I really like this look and the one that Mia suggested. They will give you a pop of color without looking OTT

I think you should try it since your interested. Why not right? It''s only hair and if you don''t like it you can always dye it back.
In high school I really liked the punk, new wave look ( 80s) and I had many hair styles and colors. I think it''s fun to experiment sometimes.

This is a really common misconception when it comes to hair color--esspecially if you''re planning on lightening it.

Of course it can be colored over. Color correction is a huge business. But, every time you chemically treat your hair it compromises the condition of your hair (aka: fries it, chemical hair cuts caused by breakage). You could end up really unhappy.

I encourage experimentation when it come to cuts and color...but I would never take someone from a conversative color to Christina Agulara. I just wouldn''t do it.

Peek-a-boo highlights haven''t been popular in a many years, you should know that going in. But if you want that look...I really hope you start slowly.

But the only light part is underneath.
Anyway..... let us know what type of color you wind up going with.

Gypsy--I completely relate to wanting an edgier look. I actually kind of like the peek-a-boo highlights, but if Italia is advising against it then I''d stay away. I definitely defer to her advice, as she is the expert!

I recently went on to my stylist and asked for an edgy look. She gave me bangs and new layers, and then I dyed my hair "natural black." Maybe an edgier cut is the way to go, here?

Here''s my before cut and color. I wore it this way for years:

And after. Ignore the strange face, I''m unable to take a good picture. This was my attempt at a kissy face. Big fail, I know.
I love my new cut, though. I feel like it has some style and just enough edge.

OMG Haven - your after pic looks like Angelina Jolie - that is amazing!!

Gypsy - I honestly think that with your gorgeous hair and skin tone, the peek-a-boo highlights just wouldn''t do you justice. I love the idea of some kind of highlights, maybe something in the caramel family to really make you glow, but I just don''t see the peek-a-boo being it on you...

OK, this is sort of what I''m thinking - I think its a bit edgier than what your mom and aunt were thinking, but classier than the peek-a-boo highlights, and I think the warm, lighter tones would really make your skin glow

WOW Haven you look great in both pics (first one I was SURE that was a pic of Katie Holmes a few years back). You have such a pretty face, that I'm sure ANY style would suit you, and I really like the "after" shot..great cut! The thing with the lighter/darker (rather fake look) Gypsy, in my opinion is for younger gals, non-professionals, and remember the pics posted of celebs, with those faces, they can get anyway with pretty much any hairstyle!

Im in the camp of do what you want. if your anything like me. you will wonder until you just go ahead and do it!!!!

I think with the right colors it could look awesome! As far as whats in or not... it is also dependent on where you live. Where I live a lot of people have peekaboo's yet. Professional and none profession. Drs. Lawyers, teachers, teenagers. From older grandma types with short fun cuts to young girls with long straight hair. They are everywhere!!!

I spent a year going darker with less highlights. Now two weeks from my wedding I had my hair heavily highlighted back to a being a blondie!! It's summer and i feel blonde!! so I went for it! It brightened up my complection and warmed my face....i love it!!! Feels good for summer!! I am going back to brown next winter.

Haven,

You''re gorgeous! This is the perfect amount of edgy!

Gypsy, any thought to this kind of edgy?

Okay so... I''m bored with my hair. I''ve never done anything (intentionally) exciting with my hair. And I''m not getting any younger.

SO do you think that this hair color treatment (peek a boo? Duo?) would look appropriate on a 32 year old professional woman? Or would I look ridiculous?

I just got my hair cut (5 inches off the bottom so it''s now below my shoulders but not below my bra strap thankfully) and I have a color appointment in two weeks. I have long layers in my hair now.

My Colors would be DARK ON TOP (natural dark brown) and CARAMEL (Four shades lighter than my own) UNDERNEATH and at the TIPS:
Not a fan of this look.

I also like this look because its more subtle.

Gypsy, don''t do it! I tried being "edgier" after my break-up only to find out that the lady over processed my hair. She gave me what I wanted, but now I have over processed bangs that I have to trim religiously every four weeks to get the nastiness out.

Here''s what I mean, in the first picture I had four colors, my natural, honey highlights, red and beach blonde.

In the second picture I went back to someone else to try to correct it, but as you all know, you can''t get beach blonde out. Not to mention that I have dark brown hair, so you can just imagine how much my hair was over processed.

emsad.gif

Anyways, my point is, she ended up having to put chocolate brown highlights to cover the nasty beach blonde and I have to go back every 6 weeks to get a toner to make sure that it''s not noticeable. Plus, I enjoy my long hair, so I don''t want to chop it off.

Long story short, don''t do it!

Here''s my new dark locks... still not completely dark, but we''re getting there. I just realized that the other pic wasn''t a good example, but trust me, I had too much going on at the same time.

I''m not a fan of your original idea, but I do love what your mom and aunt suggested and what mia1181 suggested with her picture!

I think the original picture you showed us wouldn''t look professional at all - I think it''s sort of a teenager type of look... But the others were very pretty!

Haven I don't have your gorgeous face and cheekbones, but my hair style is identical to your 'before pic" so... I think I'm going to go with More Layers, shorter ones similar to your hair style and what Amber has suggested (thank you both!) And do something with my color like this PAINTDRIPS Idea, which is exactly what I want. With the Caramel underneath. THANK YOU LA JENNIFER. It's perfect because it's low maintienence .

I will wonder if I don't do this. And my hair, very fortunately grows quickly (I easily get over an inch a month). And I've dealth with bad hair color issues and do know how to recover from them.

HAVEN, your hair looks fabulous. AND EDGY!!!

Thomper... I liked the one hair as well as your new. But what your pics showed me most is that I DO need an edgier cut, but a lot.

You are very welcome, Gypsy. I say go for it! If you don''t like it - you can always color over it. Here are some more pics of the paintdrips technique:

http://killerstrands.blogspot.com/search?q=paint+drips

I''ve learned a lot from the Killer Strands blog. I recently went from blonde to red (at a salon) - but I am maintaining my color myself. I asked the colorist what products and levels she was using and she told me. I found an online store that sells the professional products, extendedlengths.com and I''m saving myself a bunch of money. On my roots - I''m using Matrix Socolor (equal parts 7R and 7RR with 20 volume developer). On the lengths - I''m using Redken Shades EQ (along with the developer that goes with it) - I use 3 parts Curry and 1 part Rocket Fire. The Shades EQ is a demi permanent/toner and is very gentle on the hair. I touch it up once a week or so - looks just like Marcia Cross.

WOW. That's great. My aunt is a cosmotologist (or used to be, now she's a CPA) so I know some very basics, that's why I'm not scared to give this a shot. And the woman who would be doing the coloring is quite talented.

This is beautiful. I think I'm going to ask for the brunette version of this, combined with the pic above. I'm very excited. It's just what I need to get out of my hair funk. You've all been so helpful! I won't do the full peekaboo. But I do love this 'paintdrips' style, because it's a grown up verision of that. Which is perfect.

Thanks for helping me avoid a mistake, and helping find the 'right' look! I'm so excited!

ETA: SDL I remember, and it looked gorgeous! I'm excited! It's going to be so much fun to have new hair!

I went red before I found the paintdrips pics. That pic of Whitney is gorgeous! Had I not gone red, I would totally do the blonde version.
