Hi everyone! I’ve been surfing away, trying to find a beautiful, warmer OEC and I think that maybe I have found one. Adam at Old World Diamonds has shipped one to me and it will be arriving in the morning. Its stats are 1.97ct L VS1. He sent me a video but I can’t attach it here due to the extension on the file. Sigh.

If I like it, I would like to set it in a rose gold Stuller crown setting. Warm stone, rose gold setting. Then for my next question, which might be kind of weird.. I would like to have a rose gold band made that would be like any other eternity band, but instead of diamonds in the prongs, I would like to have little turquoise stones. Not turquoise gemstones, but actual pieces of turquoise. Do you know of anyone that can do that for me? And also, if you have any better design ideas for this ring, I am open to them.

I also love your turquoise band idea! The turquoise will be more prone to damage, but as long as you are careful, you should be ok! I would contact Caysie at CvB ID, she has created some super pretty pearl bands that I immediately thought of then I saw your inspiration. Instead of prongs, I would do bezel + milgrain. Here is Caysie’s design:

I adore turquoise, but it's not going to be the best for an eternity ring worn daily. Hardness is 5-6 (fair to good) compared to sapphires and rubies at 9 and diamonds at 10 on the mohs scale.

Read a little before you make that decision. The can't be cleaned in steam or ultrasonics. I recently bought some beautiful turquoise earrings, and I think earrings and pendants are safest for turquoise because they really don't come into contact with anything. Of course, the ring above with pearls would be in the same category.

Cannot wait to see it. I too love turquoise but as DS write it might not be tough enough for an eternity and I love Simone Di's suggestion.

I would also suggest - if you’re firmly set on going with turquoise - to post a thread in the colored stone forum about that project. I think you’ll get more visibility and suggestions by the CS gurus there. :wavey:

I read your reply last night. I am very grateful for your expertise but since reading your post, I’ve been trying to process my disappointment. I sound so dramatic :lol: ,,,but I was really looking forward to having a unique wedding band with my diamond ring. I wear turquoise a lot. I am trying to collect Navajo jewelry. My personal style leans toward a more boho style. But, if I am being honest, I am very hard on my rings. My current set is a simple palladium solitaire set with a plain band. It has served me well. I do everything in it, including gardening which entails digging large holes for trees and roses. Gardening in my home is impromptu. I have a stockpile of plants and when the mood hits...I dig.

Is there anything beautiful and unique out there that can withstand my rough and tumble ways? I was really hoping to have something a bit different than a plain set this time. If it isn’t possible, well, I can be realistic and take the expert’s advice. If it is possible, I would be ever so happy!
 
This is a dilemma Cat.....

The others have given great advice as usual but it seems all you can do is get what you love and be as careful as you can, but wear it in the knowledge that turquoise is indeed fragile and that damage might occur.
 
@House Cat the experts will chime in but in the meantime did a search for possible alternatives. Not the same as turquoise but unique and beautiful still and perhaps hardier for every day wear.

Blue aventurine Quartz seems lovely but I don’t know much about it.

Wow, Missy! This is beautiful. I actually have a necklace with this stone in the center and I love it. I think it will look very beautiful with rose gold.

Here is a photo of the stone. What do you think? For some reason, when I look at it in person, the shape seems a bit off round. Are my old lady eyes playing tricks on me? Is this a big deal?
 
It looks very round in the picture.. I would venture that if it is off round in person, it won’t look it in the Stuller setting as it’s got 6 prongs which are great for making a stone look rounder.
It’s got a lovely facet pattern face up.
Also thinking about your wedding band, could you get french cut turquoises and set them into a channel set band? It would offer them some protection. Or if you dig, just take them off and put them on a necklace? This lovely, bigger stone you’d probably find you need to do that with anyway least you risk damaging it or the setting

I spoke to Adam about the shape of the diamond. He assured me that the measurements are so close that I shouldn’t be seeing any distortion. I am going to move forward.

Is there anything I need to be aware of when having the diamond set? The last time I had a diamond set, it was a disaster. Do you have a particular protocol or list of requests to make sure your diamond is set beautifully or do you leave it up to the jeweler?

If you like turquoise you should do it! Single stone has a gorgeous turquoise and oec band that I fell in love with. It would look amazing with rose gold.

Congratulations on your gorgeous new stone!! It doesn’t look off round to me but I’m no good at noticing those things. Can’t wait to see it set!
 
I love turquoise, too! I just think anything you get as an eternity band needs to be taken off to do house or yard/garden work if you want to keep your fine jewelry looking nice. I take my rings off for cooking so they don't get banged up handling pots, pans, etc.
