Hi everyone! I'm hoping for a bit of help (ok, maybe a lot of help!)

I had originally started looking at 1 carat RB diamonds, but after a bit of reading, and working out a budget, I'm now looking at around the .9 mark.

I'm going to try and post a link to the page I'm looking at with some search filters adjusted. I'm hoping to keep the price around $4500 AU.

I'm going to be upgrading from a chain store .6 carat diamond which is probably only in the good/very good range, possibly I colour, and I think SI2 or I1. So I want to get value for money, but it doesn't have to be perfect, if you know what I mean!

Thanks in advance! :)

Oh, I'm also looking to have it set in a solitaire setting, probably no larger than 2mm shank

I'm kinda looking at the one for $4773

Okay, this is the one I think you are asking about - http://www.bluenile.com/au/round-diamond-1-carat-or-less-ideal-cut-i-colour-vs2-clarity_LD04094552

I ran the HCA tool - http://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca - and it scored "1.4 - Excellent within TIC range" with Excellent ratings in Light, Fire, and Spread; and a Very Good for Scintillation. Any score below 2.0 means known poor performers have been eliminated. As you can see from the image below, this diamond scored within the AGS O white outline (which is ideal)... [edited to add: somehow the little X disappeared when I copied over the image, but the X would have been within the 2nd rectangle white box from the top]

I also ran the AGA Cut Tool - http://www.pricescope.com/tools/AGA_NAJA_Cut_Class_Grader - and it scored a 1B Total Grade:
Tab Percent: 1B
Crown Angle: 1B
Crown Height: 1B
Pavilion Depth: 1B
Girdle: 1A
Depth: 1A
Polish: 1A
Symmetry: 1A
TotalGrade: 1B

The AGA Cut Tool really doesn't favor 60/60 stones - your diamond with the 59% table and 60.3% depth is considered a 60/60 diamond - so a 1B score is quite good and still falls within the American ideal cut range (http://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds/diamond-grading-chart-round).

Here's a link to more info on 60/60 diamonds: http://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds/60-60-proportioned-diamond

Your diamond is a very well cut 60/60 that would fall into AGS O ideal standards - it should be a beautiful diamond with an excellent performance. With BN's generous return policy, I would encourage you to check it out.

Wow! So much information! Thank you so much for looking into it for me, and yes, that was the diamond I was looking at :)
Thanks again :)

Hi Mary :)

You have been so helpful! Since your reply I think I've run about a dozen diamonds through those tools. I've since found another diamond about the same size, but 1.3 and 1A. It is SI1 though, so waiting for a reply as to whether its eye clean. It's also a couple of hundred dollars less, so we'll see I guess.

Thanks again :)
