Finally after about 3 weeks of waiting from jamesallen the ring was delivered today, Saturday morning. 1.30c, J VS2 GIA ex cut, 3 row Platinum pave. Just a ridiculous looking ring to me. She heard me ripping open the box. She was super happy and it turns out the diamond size is right on, her ring size is 4.5.

Just a couple pics attached since she is a nurse and sleeps during the day.

We met in college when I was 21 and she was 20 and were just pure friends, way back in 2000. A close friend tried to set me up with her roomate and that was a bad match. But I saw this really pretty girl sitting on her computer and asked for her screename haha. We lost touch for a while and recently hung out after I said hi to her on facebook. Somehow it was like nothing changed, and she has made me smile through some very rough recent stuff. I had to shut down my engineering company of 2 years over some partner issues just as all the hard work was just about to pay off with rather large jobs. She has been the only person who made me calm about that.

So I was trying to figure out when to ask her, and after dropping my sister off at her hotel, Xmas night, I decided I would ask in the pouring rain back home. As we got back home I had no idea what I was going to give her, as there was no ring. So I took a solid gold bracelet I had and bent it into this funny looking ring. And then asked if she wanted to smoke outside together, she smokes I don't. She knew something was odd about that. So as she reached for her lighter, I got down on my knee and asked. She couldn't stop crying after saying yes. Only a handful of people know, as she wanted to wait until she had a ring on her finger. So of course my excitement is huge as now she feels like everything is real and we can finally say it out loud.

I will get some more pics in a better form of light and post some more very shortly. I am a truly hopeless romantic and you can probably tell by a website I made for her, http://love.brandonandjesselyn.com

By ridiculous you mean amazing yeah!? It's beautiful, congrats!

Thanks, if she had no say I was going to get her a plain ring. So I am glad I asked and we looked at the different rings in a local store and online. She fell in love with this one at first glimpse.

It's a beautiful ring, you did well! Congratulations to you both!

congratulations! the ring looks beautiful on her hand :) you did a great job!

I am way too antsy to take pics of this in the actual sunlight or anywhere but inside the bedroom! Any suggestions? I kind of wish she ended up buying a macro lens for her SLR too.

Very pretty ring. Congratulations.

Wow, it's fabulous! Great job! :appl:

Beautiful ring and very sweet proposal story! :appl: Congrats to both of you!

Her ring is seriously blingy :sun:

Great story, thanks for sharing! I think it is great hearing all the excited guy stories, lets me know that I am not alone. Beautiful ring also, congratulations to you both! :appl:

So pretty!

beautiful! great job!

Some more pics. Now I wish I had a macro lens with star filter for my SLR. I still haven't seen this in sunlight as it's raining today!!

And even though we have been dating for a pretty short period of time, it was obvious to me within a week that she was the one. She still keeps asking how did I know, and she hates when I say everything just felt right.

Wow. that diamond looks WHITE! Congrats on the engagement!

Thanks!

So the ring came, missing one of the pave diamonds and now I get to have jamesallen send me a 2day fedex shipping label to send back to fix. The sucky part is that they said the whole process would take 7-10 days. Well at least her parents saw the ring and know this is real. But still none of our friends know. I guess there is nothing I can really do about it, though I would say their supposed quality check at the end was obvious not true as this was pretty obvious and there is no loose diamond in the box.

Just took some more pics finally in the sun. Only one came out worth posting though.

Oh that disappointing :nono:
It's still gorgeous!

So I finally put the ring in the fedex box as I realize I must send this back to be fixed. As of course I paid a lot of money to have a proper ring, and it wasn't sent the way as promised. I am a bit concerned over how Jamesallen is handling this. I keep thinking that the box says that the ring had went through quality control and yet it was sent to me missing a diamond.

So now I am sending back 2 day fedex, on jamesallen of course, and this is the message I get when trying to update my package status about 14 hours later.

"Hold at FedEx Location
Hold at FedEx Location service is not available for this shipment."

I am not very happy about this. I will keep this thread updated as I find out more. As I am trying to also get them to send me back the ring 1 day shipping as they never sent the right item to begin with. At times I feel like I am being treated like I bought a $50 knock off from ebay China.

Gorgeous ring! Good thing you asked her what she wanted! :) I always suggest that. lol. Bummer about the diamond. Pave has that problem unfortunately. I hope it gets back on her finger in a timely manner.

It was missing the diamond as soon as I opened the box and put it on her finger. There was no loose pave diamond in the box either. This is why I am pretty upset.

It's a gorgeous ring!!! Maybe then can turn it back around super fast for you!!

Some pave rings can be problematic. Think carefully whether you want to keep it before the return period is over. If one stone was loose and missing, that may mean others will be lost as well. Might be better to buy a setting like that locally in case more stones are lost. Sorry to say that but it might save you some headaches later. Those settings can have problems.

It was more upsetting to not having all the pave diamonds on the ring just through shipping. I figured the pave would disappear over time and that doesn't bother me. In fact we were considering to not send it back and think of it like an inclusion on the ring itself. But part of me just didn't like it not being right with spending that kind of money.

She will be getting a simple ring for on the job. =) Either melting down the gold bracelet I got her, or getting a custom platinum ring that I design. I am an engineer so I might design the initial ring in CAD and let a jeweler make it doable.

As an update for those wondering how jamesallen is for after purcahse customer service, they are sending back the ring fedex 1 day so that makes me more happy.

Congratulations on your engagement.
Beautiful ring: it looks perfect on her finger!
Thanks for sharing both the pictures and the story.

As a new update. I asked why am I getting an email that says the ring will take 2 weeks to fix when I was told the total turnaround would be 5 to 7 days. I am now being told that after the ring is fixed that it will need to go to their in house gemologist to look it over, then to their quality control department. I am pretty upset at this as quality control didn't catch the missing diamond to begin with. I guess anyone who reads this can make their own conclusions on their customer service. I don't think I have good things to say about jamesallen.com at this point. Now my fiance is worried that they are doing something like switching diamonds, etc. And she thinks they purposely sent it out missing 1 of the pave diamonds. What a mess.

Sorry to hear about the pave diamond. Hopefully they can do something to make you feel better about the purchase. I hope it all works out for you! The ring really is beautiful...I think you made a great choice!
