Hi Folks,

So you guys remember I was considering resetting my princess cut but I've decided to sell it and get an antique ring instead. Aiming for an excellent OMC or OEC (it would be my first OEC). Budget is between $1,000-$1200, I am putting away most of the money from the sale but I still want to get a nice antique ring in its place. Would be great to get as close to one carat as possible but 3/4 that sparkles like crazy would work. Flexible of metal, prefer white gold, platinum is great but may be out of the budget.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

For 1K, realistically, you are looking at a much smaller stone than a one carat. You can go look at era gem or victor barbone to see how much old euros and old mine cuts in antique rings are back in fashion and being priced accordingly (those two vendors are way out of budget). I would contact Ilya at Ivy and Rose and see what's he's got. I saw this which is in budget, but he has others.

Ask him for his opinion and a video. At this price point, you can't be too finicky about certifications though. Happy hunting!

@missy, I don't really have a set idea, kind of looking at everything but I gravitate towards diamonds in illusion settings thanks for those links, I will have to check them out.

@Luminous1, that ring you posted I have saved as a favorite, it looked promising to me so I'll have to get a video.

I know I have lofty ideas here, technically I could spend more but trying to get the most bang for my buck. Aren't we all? :)

Ebay and Etsy are probably going to find you the most for your money, you can post possible options here we will tell you what we think of any stones.

@foxinsox, great find, I sent her a message on Etsy since I'm not on Instagram, thank you so much!

They have a gorgeous moonstone crescent moon conversion pendant too. Love that.

You budget is $1500 for a ~one-carat OEC, including a setting?

Also try MaeJeanVintage on Etsy. They have lots of pretty smaller OECs and illusion settings. I do think $1500 is on the low side. Unless you luck out with an ebay bargain, that’ll net you ~1/2ct max from what I can see on the usual lower priced vendors like Ivy and Rose, MaeJean or Parks Fine Group

@foxinsox, I may not have to look further, I think that ring from Sin City is perfect, I'm in talks now!

@ringo865, not that I expect to get a one carat but I should have said the biggest old cut I can for my price range. I'm okay with a smaller stone if it's well cut but I may have found one so I'll keep you guys posted.

I appreciate everyone's help!

Yay! Please post many pictures if you get it. I thought it had a really pretty facet pattern and I loooove fishtail prongs

I am a sucker for the fishtail prongs and to me it has the perfect OEC faceting, I have more pics and I will post them as soon as I know it's mine! Don't want to jinx it :Up_to_something2:

I asked about the condition of the stone and this is what the seller said:

"There is a clear internal break, very small under the pavilion. Its very small, clear-white and very hard to find in the microscope"

Thoughts?

What’s an internal break? Like a feather but not a feather if it’s not surface reaching?

@foxinsox, I started a new thread on this "break". Maybe I am hung up on the terminology but from what I could find there is no inclusion called a "break". So then it is a feather and the seller says it is very very small and can hardly be seen with a microscope but someone on my other thread can see it in the pictures.

Weird! I won’t comment here since you’ve got another thread going. I hope it’s not as obvious as the other commenter seems to think. Can the vendor send you macro shots of the face up and profile to work it out?

I'm going to halt my search and save up some because I think I want a unicorn on a donkey budget :P2

Thanks for all the help though!

@SimoneDi, that's a pretty stone and setting, I'm always amazed at how PSers can find things that go together like this. Something to think about.

@StephanieLynn I think that you are doing the right thing to wait and save up some more before getting the ring you really want.

If you do want something on a smaller budget in the meantime, these two can make a good combo:

That looks like a great option and far less than the SCF ring! Great finds, SimoneDi!

I am glad you like it, but totally understand if OP wants to wait a little before purchasing a ring :)
