Hi there
Recently I got a new e ring setting.
My old setting was a trellis setting.
The new setting has made my diamond really sparkle.
I wonder if it's because the new setting prongs are much more delicate and the diamond seems more exposed.
I have a pair of bezeled studs made 7 years ago.
One of the diamonds used to be an old e ring so I know it's a 'disco ball'.
But over the years I've become very dissatisfied with them, they don't seem to sparkle like they should.
I know that there is a theory that an ideal diamond will give perfect light return in any setting.
But some think that a bezel setting can reduce light performance.
The general argument is that although the optics of diamond are optimized for light return from the table up position some of the light that enters the diamond at odd angles via the pavilion may hit crown facets and end up bouncing around the stone several times, eventually exiting via the crown. Thus adding to the brilliance of the diamond.
My bezels totally enclose the diamonds and I think that they detracting from the diamonds.
Here is a picture of bezels similar to mine.
I would appreciate any advice.
Should I change the settings to prongs?
Thanks
