Help with Solitaire setting thickness for my diamond

Hey guys, with the recent price increses in engagement rings settings, I decided to hold off on purchasing an expensive setting with pave stones, etc as they all seem to have jumped 50%+ in the past few months. I still have the 1.408c J Si1 H&A diamond which i purchased from james allen, and I am thinking now I want to just do a simple 18k white gold solitaire setting which we can upgrade later on before the wedding and find a setting with a matching wedding band.

Anyways, my question is, for a size 6.5 ring with the above 1.4c round diamond (which is 7.1mm x 7.1mm), what is a good size thickness for the band? I was thinking a decent 4pt prong head. But I don't want something that looks like it is gonna snap and break any second, but I also don't want it so big that it overshadows the diamond. In addition, it is temporary to a certain extent, so I don't want to spend too much on it either.

Any ideas? Is 3mm too big? Does anyone have any bands they'd recommend?

Thanks!

I think 2.5 mm is a nice size. not too dainty but not too thick.

Just get the standard 2.0 to 2.5mm plain tiffany style setting. That is fine forever or as a temporary setting! Just tell them you don't want the diamond set too high (the heads come in different heights).

Look at the setting that poster e-ring127 has recently posted over in Show me the Bling - simple yet gorgeous! Graduated width - how about something like that?

you could also get a setting that tapers so it gets thinner as it approaches the diamond.

I love this idea! It's traditional with just a twist of unique. It's not a setting that you are going to see everywhere either. You have a good size stone so no worries about it not being the main attraction. Because it widens towards the center of the ring, it will naturally draw the eye toward your center stone and all that very excellent bling! Great choice! Can't wait to hear what you decide to do!

So you're saying have a band that gets a little thinner towards the diamond so it draws attention towards the stone?

What thickness would you suggest I start/finish at for a 6.5 size ring? Like 2.5mm to 2mm? Or is not a pronounced enough change?
