I’ve opened Pandora’s Box... I’ve never purchased loose stones but I was looking for a yellow sapphire ring (without breaking the bank) but I wasn’t too fond of anything I was finding. I ended up on Master Cut Gems and bought a yellow sapphire and goldish-pinkish tourmaline. I’m really indecisive and unsure which color gold which compliment them.

I have a trinity ring which I used for comparison in the pictures. The tourmaline is not quite as dark/brown in real life.

So, what do you think? White, rose, or yellow?

I like the yellow gold with the sapphire and the rosy gold (upper right) with the tourmaline. Those metals enhance the color the most, to my eyes.

I'd go white with the tourmaline and yellow with the yellow sapphire.

I would set the yellow sapphire in a yellow basket, but add a white shank. I think that would really enhance the yellow.

The tourmaline is a brownish red from the photos. If you want to bring out more brown, than white metal. If you want to bring out more red, then yellow metal. If you have a gold chain you can clump up and out the stone on, it might be easier for you to see. You can use aluminum foil to see how it looks against white metal.

That sapphire was a real score! I'm not much of a fan of most yellow stones but I like the soft glow of that one.

Thanks! I’m particular with yellows, but I really liked this one. It’s a great price for the size probably because of the bubbles but they aren’t that bad to me

I’m excited you bought that tourmaline, as I almost got it, myself! I’m definitely interested to see what it will look like when set.

I like the tourmaline best with the rose gold. The sapphire could go either way, I think. The white gold is a higher contrast look. The yellow would enhance the yellow of the stone, but overall would have a more subtle look.

Thank you so much everyone for all your feedback and opinions. I’ve went to my local jewelers to see if he had semi mounts I could try my rings in. He had a setting I really liked so here is my new ring!

I’m very happy with it. It looks like a daisy with the halo and the big yellow center :}

I’m thinking about rose gold for the tourmaline but I’m not sure if I want a gold only setting or something with diamonds/sparkle
