So, I do love the gemrite stone but again, I love violet and that stone mimics how my own sapphire acts in some lighting conditions. more violet indoors, more blue outdoors. So I'm a bit biased and admittedly have a soft spot for it.

Mayer and Watt stone is too dark for my personal tastes. I think it will be dark when you're inside, so be aware of that.

The Finewater gem is really lovely. If the color in hand is correct, it would be the go to stone frankly. Heating would be issue for some, not for me.

@Arcadian thanks for your input! I'm actually going to put together a Tanzanite pendant and earrings together as a set. I think the Gemrite would match nicely with the violet.

I also love the finewater one. I think in this case I'm willing to overlook the heat. It would be nice to see which one sparkles better in real life.

There's also a large price difference.

It's so hard to decide haha :(

Yes! Here are the pictures. Comments? The Tanzanites (cushion and 2 small rounds) will be for a pendant and for earrings. I'm trying to decide between oval blue and Violet blue cushion sapphire for the ring. The violet matches the Tanzanites very nicely. However it has very noticeable tilt windows. Violet is not heated and is half the price of oval. Oval is obviously the better looking and performing stone. Maybe here, the matching set is more important?

You wanted Tanzanites????? :wall:
I must have missed out. But, they are very soft, no? I thought you can't wear them daily.

Oh no. Tanzanites for pendant and earrings. Sapphire ring!

Both sapphires are beautiful. I like the oval a little more but the violet one would go well with your tanzanites. Hard decisions!

The tilt window may not be as apparent once you've set it, afterall you're only going to see the stone from certain angles. Do you have a local jewlery store which has some stock settings lying arround? Maybe they will let you rest the stones ontop of empty settings, to get a better idea of how they will look once set.

The blue oval is lovely, but it looks quite grey under the fluorescent lighting. Personally I am not sure I like it twice as much as the cushion, this would make me reluctant to pay twice the price.

Yup, I prefer the blue more as well. It's a hard decision =[

My thoughts exactly. I think it's hard to justify double the money for it, but it is one of those "one in a life-time" decisions.

I think I want to continue my search slightly longer. Hopefully make a decision within 2 weeks!

If you're looking for unheated still, and are ok with some violet, have you seen this one? I didn't see it posted in the thread. With the color shift it might split the difference in color :)

Thread bump. Did you ever find anything you like? Would love to see pictures. The search for the ideal blue sapphire probably warrants its own forum!

Ya sorry I went MIA. I think I've secured the one.

Here it is. I should be getting it by the end of this week (hopefully). Apparently, it's not as light as the first photo shows, but I'm actually ok with that colour.

I'll post an update once I get it in my hands.

Hello here are the pics.
Seems like the colour looks great outdoors, but grey indoors. Hmm. thoughts? 20170504_172805.jpg 20170504_180704.jpg 1493823009625-1448620714.jpg 20170504_185849.jpg 20170504_185830.jpg 20170504_185903.jpg

sorry to be negative but it looks very grey-purple indoors. There is a name for that, but I can't remember now.

Not many sapphires look good indoors and in every lighting. The goal, in my opinion, is to find one that you don't mind looking at indoors. Maybe you won't absolutely love what it looks like indoors like you would with it outdoors but if you still find it somewhat pleasing to the eye, then maybe it's worth keeping.
If it is not at all pleasing to your eyes when indoors, then it's probably a good idea to send it back. It all comes down to what you think about it.

@livannie thanks! that's good advice.

I need some advice: In reference to the pictures posted below, there's a faint line diagonally across the stone. Is that normal? 2017-05-05 13.51.02.jpg 2017-05-05 13.53.09.jpg 2017-05-05 13.55.47.jpg

I can't tell from the photos if its not great faceting, zoning, or something else causing the line. Honestly, though, it wouldn't matter, as that stone would not make the cut for me. There is nothing special about the cutting and it appears to be lacking in saturation in all photos - even the ones outside. I don't know the price, but I can imagine you can do better. Don't settle.

Thanks. I think I'm leaning towards sending it back. I'm just worried now because the vendor claims that the line wasn't there before. I'm not sure if they will either blame me or shipping. They did ship using a soft package though but it looked secure when I opened it. I hope they're willing to take it back!

I think it would be best to send it back. It doesn't sound like you love it.

I would also want to know what the line is, and sending it back to the vendor so he can also see it, may be the best way to find out. Also have you run a fingernail accross the surface? I am just wonering if it catches or feels not smooth at that location.

I'd send that one back too. You are looking for something that either colour changes to a deeper blue inside or a nice vivid violet, or stays blue but darkens but still flashes vivid blues under inside lighting. If it looks dull and greyish blue or greyish purple at all then send it back.

Hi All,

Thanks for the advice. I did send that one back and I decided to go with the oval one instead. My gf said she preferred the oval shape and that one has a beautiful blue. I'm also on a time crunch so I don't have enough time to bring in any more to look at.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their advice and input. It was a relatively tough journey, but I learned a lot on this forum, and we are very interested in gemstones now :) The journey is still not completely over yet though. Waiting for the cushion stone to safely return to the vendor and receive my refund. (Hope everything goes well).

I'll start a new thread to show off what I have planned for the stones I've acquired. Thanks again!

I was going to join the chorus of sending it back but you've already done so. The stone may not be perfect but it has to be mind clean for you and the wearer,

I read a bit about this effect and I think it is called 'bleeding' when the stone looses saturation in low or indoors light. While common it is a sign of a quality sapphire NOT to 'bleed'. Sound a bit barbaric the term, but fits. It is 'bleeding' color. Pros and specialists please correct me if I'm wrong.
