Hi fellow PSers,

After a period of self education process, I am finally ready to commit to a diamond (and my girl :twirl: )

Now I would very much appreciate your help with final selections.

Choice 1: RB 1.51ct F SI2
GIA cert, ideal scope pic and normal 40X pic attached

what do you think? Some jewler said SI2 is a big no no, but I want to compromise "quality" for size, however this one's got a 1.2 HCA score and looks very sparkly...

Also, anyone has experience with buying diamonds in HK? Everyone says it's cheap there, but with Aussie dollar in parity with USD, I wonder if there's going to be a big difference over at HK. Also anyone can recommend a jewler in HK?
(I'll be in HK for 2 weeks in Dec)

Thanks heaps in advance!

Steve

I see painting but no notation on the report and the IS looks pretty well focused? Hopefully someone will chime in soon w/ an expert opinion.

Is it eyeclean to your specs? Does the vendor advise of any durability considerations re. setting in your chosen design?

Hi Yssie, thanks for your reply.
Eye clean, well, I have not seen it, only the pics, but I have also attached a couple of videos for everyone to view, at a distance, it looks to "my" eyes are kind of clean, but obviously on the 40x photo, feather etc can be clearly (and annoyingly) seen.

Have not thought about settings - I propose with diamond, she choose the design! Not quite sure what "durability" means here.

by durability I mean that if she decides on a tension setting you might have an issue, best to make sure w/ your vendor/setter that there are no problems pronging part of an inclusion, etc.

Can't tell much about visibility of inclusions from photos, plots, etc. - decide what eyeclean means to you and have the vendor vet the stone by your standards.

I do hope one of our tradespeople or prosumers opines on that IS. But if you like it and the price is right definitely worth investigating further :))

If you are already annoyed at the clarity, you might consider bumping up a notch. The feather does impact the sparkle on the videos.

nothing wrong with SI2 but with SI clarity grades you should evaluate on a case by case basis, get vendor to check if eye-clean to your requirements.

The largest feature is not the feather but the twinning wisps.
