Hey Guys,

So I have picked the custom setting and found the place that will do it for me. Now I am in search of a diamond. I would like to have something between E-G color, VS1-SI1 clarity, no fluorescence, 1.2-1.3 carat size, round stone. For the cut, polish, symmetry I am ok with anything from Ideal to Very Good. Ideally I would like to stay under $8500 (MAX $9000) What do you guys think of the diamond below:

I appreciate any comments, suggestions, and advice.

Thank you all in advance

I'm inexperienced here.
However, I'm thinking that the stone you posted might not be eye clean.
Also, looking at some of the images from the tools, Aset among them, the stone seems irregularly cut, to me.
Also, why are you interested in an F color grade stone? A low color stone might be better for you/
You'd be better off, getting an excellent or ideal cut stone - of all characteristics, cut is most important.

Go with a g colour diamond. You won't notice any yellow tinge and will be just as white ad an e/f unless put side by side.

Also, your some has a carbon spot middle of table. Not worth it in my opinion.

I say you go down to a g and up to a vs2 and get a ags0 stone just over a caret for 8k. Guaranteed to be gorgeous. Takes all the worry and guess work out.

Can we see what the setting looks like? Do you have a link to it?

There is no way to tell if it's eye-clean from a photo. Lighting can make transparent inclusions opaque, but the camera's chosen depth-of field can also mask other inclusions. You have to ask someone with it in-hand.

Also, looking at some of the images from the tools, Aset among them, the stone seems irregularly cut, to me.
The diamond was tilted in the magnified photo. The ASET is a computer-generated simulation, based on a 3D scan of the diamond. They also rendered it backlit, where we normally see actual images taken in non-backlit setups.

You'd be better off, getting an excellent or ideal cut stone - of all characteristics, cut is most important.
It's GIA 3EX, and a candidate for AGS Ideal. The problem is the imagery. You might ask the seller to re-take the magnified photo with no tilt, and to take an actual ASET photo.

There is no way to tell for sure if it is eyeclean from a photo. But all you have to do is call and talk to them, they will pull the stone and tell you.

However, unless that inclusions is transparent (which it could be), either a white or black inclusion right under the table and that big is LIKELY to be visible.

But like I said, no way to know unless you talk to someone actually holding the stone and telling you what they see.

Hey Guys,

Thank You for your help. I have been shopping in NY diamond street after all the many suggestions I read here. I have narrowed my curent search to the following three diamonds:

http://www.gia.edu/cs/Satellite?rep...ename=GIA/Dispatcher&c=Page&cid=1355954554547

http://www.gia.edu/cs/Satellite?pag...&c=Page&cid=1355954554547&reportno=6157976598

http://www.gia.edu/cs/Satellite?pag...ck&c=Page&cid=1355954554547&reportno=17489256

I would appreciate if you guys can rate these three diamonds. Also if you can ballpark what you think are good prices for the three diamonds. This would help me greatly.

Thanks

Please don't take this the wrong way.. However, I think you still need to do a bit of research on ideal cut diamonds and what to look for. The second stone there is AWFUL, in every aspect. A 69% table is ludicrous and only begins to indicate the poor craftsmanship or quality of the stone and/or cutter.

The first one has potential, but just an ever so slightly low crown angle.

LET US HELP YOU!

I don't wanna guess each stone, but I'd be interested to know the price, especially number 2.

I have a question though to one of expert posters.

Why would the third stone fit into GIA 'Very good' cut grade? Numbers don't look too bad and would score probably under 2 in HCA.

I'm curious.

I think it is the 33/40.6 combo won't make it.

But if it were say 33.5 and the idea 40.8 for example, it would?

GIA used to allow everyone to use Facetware, but not anymore.

But if you look at the charts, which has some assumptions, 60T/33.5C/40.8P is EX.

Thanks! Appreciate it.

Julie is correct. Once table reaches 60% there's no crown paired with 40.6 which will receive EX.

But this is one of the quirky places where GIA omits all semi-shallow combos while other systems do not. The AGS cut guides, in contrast, predict CAs from 33.7-34.6 at 0 light performance when combined with 60T and 40.6PA.

All of these generalizations depend on specifics of course.

the prices:

1. 8400
2. 8500
3. 6800

HCA Tool:

1) 1.1
2) 8.7
3) 1.4

Does this info change anyone's opinion?

It's up to you.

I took #3 since it's offered to you for the least outlay. The question: Does that mean it's a good deal?

A quick search on the largest industry B2B trading site shows 72 diamonds between 1.10-1.30ct and GIA G SI2 VG. Some are offered to retailers for more than 40% less than the price you quoted. Others are offered for more. What's most telling is the fact that a span of >100% in wholesale price exists between diamonds whic are all labeled "1.1X-1.2Xct G SI2 VG GIA."

The devil is in the details.

Hey guys I appreciate all of your help and have to say I turned down all three stones. I would like to see what you guys think of this one:

HCA: 1.1

Also the jeweler who is working on the custom setting is very highly reccomended and works with many stores designing rings for their window.

Hi Joe,

This diamond definitely has potential, did you find this diamond online or in a store? The proportions look good, it's well worth further evaluation.

Hey Lorelei,

Thanks for checking. I originally found this diamond online but was able to track it back to an actually store so I will be looking at this diamond today.

Hi Joey,

You are most welcome and that sounds like an excellent scenario, please let us know how you get on and if you have further questions or concerns.

Which one did you like better?

Lorelei,

I saw that diamond in person and it looked great. The same place also had this one:

http://www.gia.edu/cs/Satellite?pagename=GST%2FDispatcher&childpagename=GIA%2FPage%2FReportCheck&c=Page&cid=1355954554547&reportno=2151941217

Now I need to decide. Any suggestions?

Thanks as always

That's excellent news! The second diamond you posted also has potential, it could have a different ' flavour' to the first, it has a good spread for the weight and the proportions suggest it could be a very bright and brilliant stone. For me, I prefer the proportions of the first but I am not in a position to see either or know which you would prefer out of the 2. As Jules says, which do you like best? To be sure, ask if you can compare these side by side in in different lighting conditions if they will permit you to do so, that way you can give each a reasonable test drive to see which you prefer.

Hye guys,

Thanks for all the help. I would like just let everyone know I chose this diamond:

http://www.gia.edu/cs/Satellite?pagename=GST%2FDispatcher&childpagename=GIA%2FPage%2FReportCheck&c=Page&cid=1355954554547&reportno=2151941217

I was also able to get a discount using pricescope so I was super thrilled. I already told my jewler the size of the diamond so he is able to make the custom ring. I will post pictures once the ring is complete.

thank you!

Many congratulations to you Joe, looking forward to your pictures when the ring is done!

Hey guys,

As promised below is the finished ring:
