Hello,

I come from Switzerland and I stumbled across this site when trying to educate myself a little about diamonds. I am amazed of how interesting and helpful this wonderful site is ! Your knowledge and comments are really great !

I need your advice about an eternity ring that I intend to wear along with my wedding band.

My wedding ring is a Cartier lanières yellow gold band with gold squares alternating with diamonds. It is 3 mm thick and 3 mm wide.
I am very interested by the eternity bands from Signed pieces but since I cannot go to try them on myself I need sound advice as to which design would match my wedding band best.

1. Setting : platinum or yellow gold ? Since my band is yellow gold the logical choice would be the same metal but I fear that the diamonds of the eternity band show less beauty set in yellow gold than in Platinum or wg...Is this true ?
Is the Rafael setting much lighter and more beautiful than the regular facet setting ?

2. Diamonds shape: I am hesitating between asscher cut, round or square radiant. I have a thing for asschers, but the diamonds on my wedding band are small RB. Would it fit in spite of this ?

3. Size of the diamonds : would the 5 ctw sit well on my size 4.75 finger ? The ring would be 4.8 mm wide with regular setting and 4.4 mm wide with rafael setting. Does this 5 tcw (about .3 ct per diamond) allow to show well the asscher pattern ? A smaller tcw (about 3.8 to 4 ctw) would still be nice enough ?

4. Colour and cut of the diamonds : would F-G VVS-VS be high enough (even for asschers) ? Since the diamonds are not individually graded, what is the real quality of the cut described by Facets itself as "ideal" or "premium" ?

Thank you very much for your help !!

Jessica

Hello!

Do you have a picture of your ring? I think that would help us make some suggestions on a matching band.

Welcome back

Are you going to wear 2 bands side by side or there will be an e-ring dividing them?

I would get an asscher ( you like them) eternity in yellow gold to match your band's metal and the shape of those "gold squares". So diamonds in the new band will match not diamonds in the first one, but metal squares.

Thank you very much for your posts !

Actually, I tried to download picture of my ring from cartier''s site, but all the site is built with flash so I couldn''t do it.. I am no computer crack...

But here is the link where you can see it...my ring is the right one of the first row

http://www.cartier.fr/fr/Collections/Joaillerie,1,12

I will wear the eternity without the e-ring, only with the wedding band.

Thank you for your suggestion about the shape ! Actually that is true, I love asschers and in Switzerland it is not a common shape...I am pretty sure that nobody will have a similar ring

So now that we are on asschers (my hubbie loves them too

Now a crucial question : what do you think about the quality of the cut by Facets ? I know that the cut is THE point for all diamond shapes and especially with asschers, there are clearly more beautiful stones than others..Any experience and feedback about the quality of the asscher cut by Facets ?

Finally, which ctw should I take ? On the pics of Facets site, it is pretty hard to get the idea of their look on the finger since all the designs are magnified to allow us to see the details....My husband finds the 5 ctw expensive even if I downgrade to F-G colour which I am not sure is the best thing to do...

Thank you for your help again

i would try to match the depths of the two rings. the bigger each stone in the eternity is, the higher the minimum height will be...

Here you can get an instant quote for 18 YG asscher eternity band for different tcw"s and diamonds qualities and see what's fit your budget.

How about counting your "squares" and going with same quantity of asschers?

ETA: actually i think i will manage to count from the picture on the link you gave, just not sure that your ring size is the same.

yes, counting my squares is a good idea...I have 20 squares on my ring and this matches a 4 ctw for asscher eternity band with rafael setting for a size 5..And the price is 4k less than the same band with 5 ctw !

Thank you very much for your sound opinions and advices !

yes Angeline it is my ring. Thank you I am happy you like it !

Actually, when I got married 2 years ago, we went directly to Cartier for our wedding bands and we both fell in love with this design. Since we wanted the same design for my hubby and me (He''s got the ring without stones) that was exactly what we were hoping for.

Now, he wanted to give me a second ring from the lanières collection, the one with diamonds all around but, with my newly acquired knowledge about diamonds

, I told him I''d rather have a non branded eternity ring, because for the same price as the Cartier band, we could get a wonderful eternity band with more than the double tcw of the Cartier one...And I can have asschers which I really love !

In fact, since I had a very good experience when buying diamond studs from Bluenile (that is how I started my diamond search over the net) around the time of the wedding I thought that it would be just as well to buy over the net for an eternity band but there is a problem with the size of the ring, which has to be perfect with e-bands, so we are considering travelling to NY in the coming months for me to try some rings in real before the final purchase. Since it is an investment of thousands $, we could spend a couple of hundreds more to be sure of what fits my finger and have a nice vacation at the same time

Anyway, I''ll let you all know about this happy process and would be very happy to post pics of my new e-ring when we get it ! Many many thanks to your precious help. Now I became kinda addict to this site and to the wonderful pics, tips and comments one can find here !
