Hello, so my GF likes 2 different rings and I think by combining them I can create her dream ring. I was hoping for some advice on how to go about getting a custom ring made with the following design elements and if you feel that it would create a great looking ring.

First, she likes the Novo ring from Tiffany''s, I''m sure many of you are familiar with it since it seems to be a popular discussion item in the forums. Second, she really wanted some sort of rose gold element to her rings (and all her jewelry in general). She happened to really like the setting/bezel (I am unsure of the proper terminology) on this David Yurman ring http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/main/ProductDetail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524446175103&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=282574492707306&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474399545537&bmUID=1201785227898.

So I was curious if there already exists such a ring or if it is reasonable for a custom made ring to include the novo ring element with the setting containing pink saphires (pave?) and rose gold? I would preferably choose an Asscher centerstone but it seems to me like Cushion cuts are somewhat less expensive and easier to find.

I appreciate any input and opinions on this. Thank you.

hmmm. i''m not sure combining them would be the best idea. they are somewhat different styles and could end up looking kinda pieced together rather than one pretty flowing design. The Novo is a very simple ring, where that yurman has a lot going on with the rope bands, the halo etc.

my suggestion? get her a novo type ring for her e-ring and buy a 2nd yurman ring for a RHR. that way she gets to enjoy both looks she loves. i think the NOVO is very classic and will easily become and heirloom type style/ring. the yurman is much more trendy IMO and I would be concerned that *I* would tire of the design after years of marriage.

If you''re set on the combo idea, I''d change the bands on the yurman to the same pave that is in that halo instead of the rope bands and you could still do the pink halo/rose gold thing if you wanted.

can''t find a picture of something exactly like I described above, but here is a beaudry ring from Pearlmans website that can kind of give you the idea....

Thanks for the advice. The Beaudry is beautiful and I saw exactly what I had in mind in the same collection at Pearlman''s. Unfortunately its about 100k above my budget. Since I''m relatively new to this, can you recommend other websites and possibly jewelers in NYC?

have you seen the work of Leon Mege? www.artofplatinum.com he''s in NYC. don''t know your budget but he''s not priced as high as some big designer names and all his pieces are handmade. If he''s still out of your budget, then I''d suggest Mark. T at www.engagementringsdirect.com.

If you wouldn''t mind working with someone not local for you, Maytal Hannah used to work for Beaudry... she does custom, beautiful work and her prices are not outrageous.

I'm jumping on the Green Lake Jewelry train (www.gljw.com/). They're based in Seattle, but they do great custom work and are very reasonably priced.

There are many, many, many rings out there that are similar to what you''ve discribed...pave, halo, a touch of rose gold, pink sapphires perhaps...Spending the time looking, gathering information, doing your research is your greatest hurdle.

I would suggest setting a firm budget from the start. Decide what you want to put towards the diamond verse what you want to put towards the setting. If you feel comfortable sharing that budget, and specifications regarding the diamond, ect.. we can help you find what you''re looking for.

I contacted Leon. Thank you for suggesting him. I like what he has and his prices are within my budget I suppose. We have worked out a design and estimate online but I feel more comfortable visiting him at his shop. I feel with my lack of proper terminology there is confusion between what I want and what he suggests, or anyone for that matter. Everyone has different opinions on what looks good, not surprisingly, so I feel like I really need to see some examples close up.

Well I feel finding the diamond is not going to be a problem. And for me, obtaining the right setting is more important than the stone since, anyone can get a stone, but I feel that the right ring and setting is more of a true reflection of my understanding of what my girlfriend wants in a ring. But I appreciate all the help I can get. So my budget is 15k max. But I feel I can get what I am looking for less.

I want an Asscher 1.25-1.5 G-H VS1-2. That will prob run me 7k. As for the setting, I have heard that bright cut is better than pave for Asscher. I don''t know the difference. Can you explain that please?

I would like pink stones (diamond or sapphire) in the halo with rose gold as well. For the actualy band, I''m looking for something thin and simple, although the Novo look is ideal. Something that my girlfriend would describe as dainty. This is a good start, but different centerstone obv: http://www.artofplatinum.com/4images/details.php?image_id=244

Thanks.

Nice budget and that pink halo ring by Leon is amazing! And I really love the look of pink halos with Asschers (one day I hope to own one!); I think the feminine, soft pink showcases the flashy Asscher. Great choice!

This is MaryAlaina's pink halo cushion... gorgeous!
