Help! Will a G-H wband overpower my J ering?

I am trying to buy two eternity bands from Facets to stack on either side of my Ering. I just got a price quote and yay! its in my budget.

But the salesman said G-H "will most likely overpower your J colored stone and we do not do lower color or clarity." Do you agree? I thought H would be fine, although G makes me a little nervous. But I just saw that other post comparing G to J and I couldn''t really see a difference.

Is it worth even trying or do I need to find a place that makes J eternity bands?

Also, do you think it will be worse because it''s 2 bands so my solitaire will be surrounded by lighter stones?
Would I be better off getting just one band (although I would want it a wider band, so the stones would be bigger)?

Please tell me what you would do?

When I was looking at settings I was told that small stones face up whiter than larger stones. I was looking at a G setting and was told that it would be ''just right'' for my F center stone. Maybe that''s why the Facets guy said that?

I have an F asscher and our jeweller was fastidious about matching color, so he made the small pears and round brilliants in the setting a G since they were brilliant cuts and smaller, thus they face up whiter. My eternity band is also G in color. That being said, I have seen several pictures on PS of lower color stones in brighter halos and I think they look great. I think your best option is to go to a local jeweller and try on some eternity bands in the G-H range (I know all the jewellers I visited stocked eternity bands in that color range) and see how you like it next to your J.

I''ve seen quite a few photos around here of people who have been able to pull it off perfectly! Is there any way you could go and try on some bands with G-H stones? That way you could see it with your own eyes and make a decision based on how it looks in person, not just on paper.

If the stones are smaller in size, I honestly don''t think it is going to be very noticeable. It might be slightly noticeable to you if you observe the rings everyday, but to the casual observer it will be just fine. There was someone here on ps who had a big K pear stone with 2-3 shared prong bands from facets that were high in color, can anyone find this thread? I thought the set looked great!

Here's a shot of my new K colored RB with an F colored princess channel band.
I was worried that the K would look weird with all these higher color bands that I already had, but it faces up so white that it's practically a match.
Try them on to see, if you can(I believe Facets has a good return policy)if they don't work out, you might be surprised. I was!

Also, many jewelers can make you a band with warmer colored melee if need be. I'm sure you'll find your band!

Here's a hand shot of my J stone set in Facets bands with 10 pointers that are F-G. When looking at the set face up, there is no discernable difference in color. In fact, I really have been in any lighting condition as of yet where I could see a noticeable difference!

I finally got myself together (been in a funk all morning!) and I am off to go and see some for myself. I just HATE doing the whole B&M thing where I feel bad that I am looking at their diamonds, but know I probably won't buy from them. Also I feel like I can't even mention the whole online thing because they all try to persuade me against it. Most of all I hate the pressured sales tactics! Yuck! So I am headed to a place I've been before that was very nice in the past, and one I've read on here that people have had good experiences with.

I know I can just order it and return it if I don't like it, but I would rather reduce the chances of having to return it if at all possible.

Also does anyone have a comment on whether I should stick with 2 bands (about 1.5 mm each), or if I should just get one (2-3mm wide) since bigger stones don't face up as white?

As far as one or two bands - it's a personal preference. How big is your main stone? My bands are both 3mm wide and are just right with my 1.73.

Please don't be freaked. I have a K 1.77RB that I wear with two .50ct eternity bands, one on either side. The eternity bands are G-H in colour. They look okay, being such small stones. If I were to do bigger stones, I might go to H-I. I would see no need to go to J-K at all though. I can't give you any new pics of my rings as my ER is at the shop right now getting replated. But you can see somewhere my set with one of the eternity rings (got second one for Christmas, no pics) if you search my posts.

ETA: my eternity rings are full prong, 1.5mm each, bought at a local shop.

I think you can relax!!! If your J colored center stone is well cut and was graded by a reputable lab, you will be FINE! I have an AGS-0 2.36 RB, color J, and in its old setting, my w-ring was an ACA 5 pointer (F/G colored stones) semi-eternity band. It looked GREAT.

My new setting has much smaller melee (< 2 pointers, but still ACA F/G stones) and it looks fine, too. Honestly, I have never been anything but 100% happy.

And BTW, I vote for 2 small bands... I think that would be LOVELY. Plus you would have more versatility (can wear one or both) and I think you will LOVE the delicate, beautiful "lines of shimmer".

Phew! I feel so much better!

Not only are the rings on here gorgeous, but I got to see some G rings in person next to my stone and it looked great.

I could see a veeery slight difference in color if I looked really hard. But it was nothing anyone would notice. It wasn''t like they "made" my diamond look yellower, or my diamond stood out against the whiter backdrop, as I was picturing. The saleswoman was looking at me like I was crazy when I started examining at every angle and asking her if it looked yellow to her.

I actually really liked the place I went, they even gave me a rose as I left. Which I used as soon as I got in my car to take pictures of my diamond (been wanting to do that!) Its just too bad I can''t buy from them because their rings were twice the price of the ones from Facets!

Anyway, I''ll post my pics in a few minutes, but now I can''t decide if I should go two bands or one. The thin bands they had were not very nice and didn''t look good because they didn''t sit flush next to my low-set solitaire. I''ve tried on some before that did look nice, but its just one of those things where my last impression is stuck in my head. However I thought just about any thicker band looked great! I don''t know.... On one hand , I love the idea of stacking bands because it is so dainty and different, not to mention versatile. While on the other hand, one thicker band will be more noticeable like "wow, she''s got some bling!"

My solitaire is only a 1.26 Princess and it is set low, so there is also the danger of "overshadowing" the ring size-wise.

I also made some pretty crappy photoshop (except with cheaper/crappier software) of what I think 1 or 2 bands would look like next to my ring and I am getting mixed reviews from everyone so I don''t know what to do!

What shape is your e-ring center stone? If it''s round and well cut, it will probably be fine. Other cuts show color more, and if you put and eternity ring with round G-H stones next to it, you may be able to differentiate.
