Help! Which side stones/setting for 0.7 AVR?

I just bought a 0.7 ct G SI2 AVR (round) from GOG, and am thinking about how to set it.It's only a small diamond (by PS standards) so I really want the stone to shine and for the setting to really let the vintage cut stand out.

Here is the diamond: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/12176/

I will probably have it set by a local jeweler that I've used before. I'm torn between the following setting inspirations:

SETTING 1:
Like this VC setting but with double claw prongs: http://www.victorcanera.com/jewelry/engagement-rings/the-lily-three-stone-engagement-ring

SETTING 2:
http://www.victorcanera.com/jewelry/engagement-rings/the-anya-french-cut-solitaire-with-round-brilliant
but with princess cut diamonds and double claw prongs.

** Prongs: double claw eagle prongs (like this: http://www.victorcanera.com/jewelry/engagement-rings/classic-solitaire-with-double-wire-prongs )
shank: thin **

Questions for you all

(1) Which setting would you prefer? Or please recommend something else. I did consider halos for a brief moment but decided against it because I didn't want to overshadow the lovely cut of the AVR.
(2) 14k Rose Gold or Platinum?

Thanks!! :) :)

You do realize that those first 2 settings from Victor are in the $4,000 and above range right? The solitaire is going to be more affordable. But his pieces are pricey.

Are you sure you don't want to get something that GOG carries. They have a lot of lovely designer settings.

Hi, yes I know that, thanks! :)

I live outside the US so I have just bought the loose stone from GOG, and will have a local jeweler come up with a custom design based on the suggestions that I give him. so it won't be the same as the VC settings but may include elements of it.

Ahh. Okay.
Here's the thing. Most jewelers do double claw prongs poorly. And your stone could easily be overwhelmed by inferior and bulky prongs.

I personally would go for something more deco, like this: http://antiqueengagementrings.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=3199

Thanks so much for the advice about the claw prongs - that's what I was starting to find after some looking. It seems that it's difficult for some jewelers to do a tapered claw properly, a lot of them just look too bulky, like you said. :/

I love that ring in the link you posted!!! Thanks so much for the site. I will go through it and mull over my options.

I have two "local"/regional vendors I use regularly for settings and re-settings due to their fast turn-around and ease of working with them due to proximity, Here are their respective pieces that I liked for this stone (but would need some customization and changes). But I haven't seen examples on their stores which quite meet my expectation for claw prongs.

Thanks again for the advice :)

The first link came up as Heart of Water but it didn't show a ring. I would also recommend looking at the Beverley K site for inspiration, and Greenwich Jewelers also has some better pictures of BK rings.

As I am sure you know, I love AVR's! I didn't want a halo for mine because I didn't want it to be too big. But with smaller stones, I would definitely consider a halo because I think it frames the stone and makes the facet pattern show up more! Not to mention, it gives a little boost in size, if that is desirable. There is someone here with an OEC in a halo that shows this so well, but I am not sure if I can think of her PS name. I'll post it if I find it!

Here is one I was thinking about:

As far as your inspiration pics, I don't really think the side baguettes will look as good with a stone your size. I like the french cut one better for your stone, but not all jewelers will be able to access those FC stones, I don't think.
