Hi,

Looking for some help and thoughts on a couple of diamonds for a necklace / pendent I’m planning to buy as a wedding present for my fiancee.

Originally I was planning to buy a 0.17 carat Tiffany diamonds by the yard with a silver chain, however I think I could do this cheaper through blue nile with a much bigger diamond.

If you were to pick between the following two diamonds, which would you pick?

And which setting would you choose between

Blue Nile Petite Bail Pendant

or

Bezel Set Solitaire Pendant Setting – which I know might make the diamond look bigger so might be a better choice?

Hoping to hear your thoughts and choices.

Thanks,
Peter

I would go with the first stone you listed...they both have good numbers but the first stone is bigger and I'm seeing a slight brown tint in the second
stone (probably just the photo set up) but I dont see any reason why not to go with the bigger stone.

As far as settings I* would probably go with your second choice, however, I hear they do walk up around your neck. I've only had the first kind that
hangs off a bail so no experience there. See what others say.

I agree with @tyty333. I like the larger choice and I really don't like necklaces with fixed stations. They are never in the right spot on me an you are stuck with that chain. I like to mix it up.

Hi

Thanks for the replies. I’ve decided to go with the first diamond and have ruled out the second.

So that just leaves me with a decision on the necklace. My only concern about the Blue Nile bezel is the size of the round “ears” that connect the chain to the pendent seem a little big in comparison to the rest of the piece. Maybe not as delicate as the Tiffany version.

Do you think it would be worth buying the diamond and trying to have another jewellers to fit it? Or would that just be too much hassle?

Would anyone suggest getting the tiffany dbty necklace at 0.17 carat (with silver chain), which would be around the same price as a 0.43carat from blue nile (platinum or white gold chain)?

And lastly does anyone have any pictures of this size of diamond in the bail pendent? Just worried it might be a little small in this style?

Lastly my partner is quite petite, so would you all recommended a 16 inch chain for this piece?

Anymore advice anyone? :)

I personally would go with the first BN stone (vs Tiffany) but I go for value over name brand. Others who are into the blue box name brand may tell
you to go with Tiffany if you think your GF or wearer is into Tiffany.

The only picture I have of that size stone is in a "flowery" pendant so it wont give you a "real" idea of size. However, I think it would be a great size
for a petite women. My stone is a .46.

Here is a virtual image of what that first stone would look on a size 5 finger. If you wait a bit you'll probably get some others to post some pendants
of approximately that size.

Edit...maybe this will help a little more

Can you check the length of other necklaces she wears?
I prefer the first setting with the bail. I have a 3 stone diamond by the yard made by a local jeweller and the Mickey ears do bother me, I think they are too big!

All my diamond pendants have been bezeled. However, I much prefer the first of they two you have listed.

So I’ve found this, which is basically the exact size of the diamond I’m looking at in the blue nile bezel.

What does everyone think? Only difference is that I would probably go for a 16 inch chain.

Or would anyone still go for the Petite Bail Pendent?

The main advantage of the bail is that it would be in platinum, whereas with the bezel due to the cost I would go for white gold?

I think I’ll probably go for one of these options rather than the Tiffany, seems much better value for money and my GF isn’t really one for brands I would say.

Thanks!

Any more thoughts after comparing?

My only slight concern would be the diamond being a little small in the Bail setting..but leaning more towards it now.

Totally get the Gold or platinum at blue nile for the price of sterling silver at Tiffany. Silver is inexpensive (except at Tiffany)

I'd also do a bale or if they could do an open back on the bezel so a chain could slide thru. You could get additional bezeled stones as time goes by that she could add to her necklace.

Another idea is to get a 17 inch chain with a little o-ring at 16 inches so she could adjust the length (e.g., layering, etc.)
