Hi! My parents' 40th Anniversary is in a month & my dad asked me (this wknd) to help upgrade my mom's original e-ring (1ct H RB - avg cut), since she's been going gaga over my fiery e-ring

I'm no expert on RB's (having gotten a princess) so I'd luv some help from the RB pros

...

I was looking for a really well-cut I or J, as close to 2 cts as possible, keeping the stone & the band near $10k if possible.

AGS Ideal O - 7.64 x 7.65 x 4.64 mm $9600.
Depth 60.7% Table 56% Girdle 0.7-1.2 Culet PT Crown Angle 34.90 Pavilion Angle 40.90

I am going to see the above this Weds but would luv to hear your opinions on this stone in the meantime? Thanks so much!

Can't go wrong for that price... Depending on what band you get, it might be too expensive for your budget.

So i saw both the I & H today... and three other bonus stones

some really great-looking, well-cut stones...

As mentioned earlier, i've not scrutinized many RBs before today & i have to say how surprised i am at how "forgiving" they are... i saw no color variation btwn the G/H/I stones - and, more importantly, when v closely examined from a few inches away on white paper, i could barely find the inclusions on the SI1 & SI2

When they were placed in a mounting or on my hand, i couldnt see the inclusions at all - they were small & scattered so maybe that helped?

Anyway, what i could see was the size dif btwn the I & H - so i'm holding the H, trying to figure out how to make it fit in the budget...

Also looking for a thin (2mm-ish) platinum pave band - the m flyer band looked a tad too thick w the stone i believe - anyone have any ideas where to look? Thanks again for all your help!

ou got to see the stones. That's always the best way to buy. The H is off the web site so can't see the specs.

If you are looking at inclusions and they are white, it's usually easier to see them if you hold the stone against a dark background. Holding against white paper can make them harder to see. Try it next time!

When you say you ant a thinner ring, do you mean the profile or thickness or the width and is narrower shank? The Michael B's look very narrow and quite nice. You could alwasy go custom for probably not much more as well.

Good luck.

If you can find a jeweler near your home that carries them, check out the Star 129 cut. I have one for my solitaire and that puppy sparkles like no other. They are fairly reasonably priced considering they are an ideal "branded" cut. You can get an H and its still as bright or brighter than a "regular" ideal cut round D.

I don't know if GOG carries them yet but I know they were going to check them out.

Specs for the H:
1.736 ct 7.81 - 7.83 x 4.74 mm AGS 0
SI2 (small black & gray crystals that are difficult to focus on among the sparkling facets)
Table 56% Depth 60.6% Girdle .8-1.4 Pt Culet
Crown Angle: 34.8 / Pav Angle: 40.9
Crown Height: 15.2% / Pav Depth: 43.2%

Numbers sound OK?

Not sure if i saw DI's office since i was sent to an alternate suite/floor - it was like every I-net diamond dealer office i've seen - dont think they're built to impress

Megan was v nice/patient & generous in showing me so many fabulous stones to compare - i even got to look at the hearts & arrows.

I could try to attach some photos of the H... when i first saw them i thought "no way can this be a great looking stone"... but, as mentioned previously, these rounds a v forgiving w inclusions

Does Michael B have a website? I think i know which band you're thinking of Noobie & it would fit the bill if the price isn't overwhelming.... thanks!

Last one - the stone under high magnification - i'm still amazed how great it looks in person...

Do you have any idea how eye-clean it is in person, other than "not 100%"? That's a pretty scary amount of inclusions to trust that they'll be hidden (but if they are, what a great deal!)

hi chialea

i did see the stone - i couldnt see the inclusions easily...

I went to Michael C Fina at lunchtime to look at pave settings - the Michael B settings were luvly but the cheapest one i saw was $3700 - the one i liked the best was $11K!

How could s/t so small be so pricey? Anyway, there's a few at Solomon Bros for under $2K that might work - anyone have experience with them?

Thank you elepri - i'm sorry you had to part w your ring!

After browsing on-line for a bit, these are the three i'm most interested in - what do you all think?
