hi,

I recently purchased this diamond: https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3947726.htm

I just read a post from another PS thread about feather being too close to girdle might chip the diamond...

So I went back to my stone report and realized that the stone I bought a couple weeks ago also has the same possible issue where the feather is located near the girdle?

Please let me know if my stone is at higher risk of potential chip because of that feather location in it? What is the chance of chipping it?

Thanks!

It would not worry me.

A feather in a VS stone isn't a concern. Beautiful diamond! So you have it already? Can we see pics ?!

Most feathers, especially in a VS2 diamond, are not an issue. The diamond has been through great pressure and heat during the polishing process. If this diamond were likely to self destruct, it would almost always already have done so.

It is very common though to read about how feathers that reach the surface are bad or how feathers that are close to the girdle are bad. The truth is that feathers are surface reaching. The truth is that it would be exceedingly unusual for a VS2 feather to be dangerous, regardless of whether or not it is near the girdle or even on the girdle.

There is an article here on Pricescope about feathers:

It is well worth the few minutes that it will take you to read it.

P.S. The chance of your diamond chipping is exactly the same with or without the feather. When struck with sufficient force in the correct direction, your diamond will chip.

Hi yes i received the loose stone about 2 weeks ago :) I don't have it with me as I have it locked in the safe box at bank :) I will send it to the jewelry store to have it set as soon as Vatche sends the setting to my jewelry store :) I will post pictures once i got the whole thing.

Phew.... Thank you all so much for your help. I am relieved to hear that my stone is looking great.
I will post a new thread to ask for advice on things to look out for when I hand over my stone to the jewelry store for setting. Please pardon me if I was being paranoid.

Looking forward to any updates and a pic of the finished product!

No need to worry about being paranoid, it's very common with a purchase of this magnitude and doing a little homework can provide great peace of mind and enable one to enjoy their stone without fear!

Kae,

You did good! Asking questions, especially when you have a legitimate concern is so much better than worrying forever that you made an error. There are a lot of good people here who are always willing and able to assist you when you have questions.

You might even catch the bug and stick around long enough to become one of those helpful experts. This is a GREAT place.

Thank you! It took me 3 weeks to decide on that stone. It was my bad that I didn't think of posting questions here for stone search help at all. I should have done it as I was debating hard between a couple other stones. I am just glad and happy to know that the stone I bought is great.

PS is INDEED A GREAT PLACE!!! I am grateful for all the helps I have received from this forum. Just amazing!
