Hi PS,
My first post. Wanted to thank you all for teaching me so much with regards to cushions. You guys have an amazing online community. Between this forum and GOG videos, I have learned so much in the past 2 weeks. I fell in love with antique cushions, like so many of you, and had my process narrowed down to an AVC vs ERD antique cushions. Long story short, there's been a change in plan and I am now looking to recreate Molly Sims' engagement ring made by Lorraine Schwartz with a budget of 40k. I have attached a ton of photos. My question is:
1. The stone - What kind of stone does she have - from the photo it looks like a modern cushion, 5-6 ct, colorless or near colorless, in a slightly elongated shape? I was thinking that for my budget, I could get something similar in the 2.5-3 ct range. Most important, I am trying to avoid the slushy crushed ice look and find a stone with great optics. The slightly elongated shape is also important to me as if it becomes too square, I feel like I'll end up with an Amy Smart engagement ring look, which I do not like as much. Color and clarity are less important to me, but I was thinking H or better and any clarity as long as it's eye clean would be fine. Any recommendations on best place to look? I worked with GOG, ERD, and to a lesser extent LM, when I was looking for vintage cushions and I have just started to work with ERD and GOG in the search of a modern cushion, but haven't quite found what I am looking for. Are my expectations too high?
2. The setting- I have never seen a setting like it. It is almost as if there is no metal and the ring is made of diamonds glued together. And while the stone is obviously a knock-out, I think it's the setting that makes this ring so special. Do you think it would be possible to replicate? Who would you recommend going to for something like this? I was thinking LM or ERD but I was not sure.
Thank you and I look forward to hearing back!
