Just came across a pic of a side stone band with AVC stone. Is that what you're saying doesn't work well in your opinion:

It works very well for a person who loves antique cushions on pave bands and wants one. There's nothing wrong with it for that situation, and if fact it's a perfect ring for that person.

It's all about context . This is my caution:
But while pretty, it doesn't work well, IMO, for a person who, like your lady, likes a Novo and expects a modern faceted cushion as the center stone. It's a very unique and DIFFERENT look the antique cushions have and all I am saying is when you say she loves the Novo-- to me that says-- stick to modern cushions cause antique cushions like the AVC are very different breed of cushion. It's like asking for a Doberman and getting a Min Pin. Now both are dogs, and a Min Pin is a great dog, looks just like a Doberman just much smaller-- and it behaves differently. And people react to them differently. No one runs from a min pin (except cats). That's the same thing with these diamonds. They are both cushions... but if you want and are expecting a doberman you may not be won over by the "but it's a mini pin, see how cute?" argument. And again, this is for her.

Wow that stone does look nice. Is that not starting to have too much green in the ASET though? Or am I just being picky? And for an extra $1k or so would I be able to a G or F color (albeit barely noticeable to naked eye)? Guess I'll just need to email and have them look first thing Monday AM.

Love the doberman metaphor hilarious and makes sense!

Hi! I think a pace setting could compliment an antique cut stone very nicely. I just think the Novo in particular has a modern aesthetic because of the basket/prongs. Maybe I am being nitpicky :)

I think that Gypsy's point about expectations and her pooch analysis is right on.

Saw some stones today in London.

Both GIA Certified cushions with prices in settings with diamond on band. What do you think based on information provided?

A) Cost = £11,500 1.50ct G SI1 with dimensions 6.53 x 6.46 x 4.32. 69% table & 66.9% depth. GIA rated Good, Good, No Florescence
B) Cost - £10,900 1.51ct F SI1 6.48x6.46x4.38 GIA rated Ex, Vg, No

How do I calculate HCL score to see if I should weed either out right off the bat?

Both were eye clean but could pretty easily find the inclusions with the loupe.

So both of these are well over $15k in USD. Would I be better of sticking to GOG or ERD even though I wouldnt be able to view the stone in person and have to trust their advice on cut quality & brialliance?

https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca,, its up in the tools section, but from what I understand only helpful with RB cuts. You need aset images for most other things.

I would still go with GOG or ERD for a cushion. I know GOG makes videos, I'm not sure about ERD, but that would make me feel better in a purchase I couldn't see.

Re: HELP - The ultimate engagement ring challenge! 1.7+ RB $

Is the Doberman the AVC and the min-pin the modern faceted, or vice versa? Love the analogy and in general have found this thread (and Gypsy's contributions to it, in particular) extremely helpeful. I'm going through the exact same struggles myself. About a $15k budget all-in and looking for 1.5-1.75Ct Cushion Cut. Trying to decide b/w modern faceting, AVC, or Brellia H&A. The lady likes Cushion Cuts w/ modern faceting, I think, but she may also like the AVC because of how unique it is. I'll have to ask.

So, I need to know: what'd you settle on, and how'd it go?
