Help Selecting Between Two Diamonds

Hello,

May I please get your input on choosing a diamond and setting? I am looking for an engagement ring between 1.25 and 1.5 carats - bigger is not necessarily better from my partner's perspective, as she doesn't want a ring that looks too large for her very small hands (she has a 4-4.5 ring size). We agree that cut is the most important aspect of a diamond, and I am looking at both Whiteflash A Cut Above, and James Allen True Hearts. I expect Whiteflash to generally be higher quality than James Allen, but the prices are higher, and the specific ring I'm looking at from James Allen looks to exhibit the arrows pattern well. A Tiffany-style six-prong setting with well-designed prongs (not straight/flat prongs) is an important element here.

While I like A Cut Above, the diamond I am looking at here seems to be at the very margins of the A Cut Above parameters. Should I be concerned about the table and other dimensions of both of these rings? Does the James Allen diamond selected below make sense here, or are there other Whiteflash or James Allen (or other provider) diamonds that I should consider?

What else should I be looking for, and is there anything James Allen can do to provide me with more confidence in a purchase here? Thank you in advance for your advice and input!

Here are the diamonds in question:

James Allen 1.53 carat, I, VS1, True Hearts
James Allen setting

Whiteflash 1.28 carat, I, VS2, A Cut Above
Whiteflash - Vatche U-113 setting

Because the Whiteflash ring would need to be set in a Vatche U-113 setting to get the Tiffany look, the setting would cost an incremental $1K above James Allen, resulting in less ring at roughly the same price. I am trying to keep things around $9-10K total before taxes, but can be flexible if the value is there (I want to spend at minimum $8K)

Whiteflash does have other six prong settings - one is the Valoria that many others have used. I much prefer the Whiteflash diamond because of the specs and the inclusions. I think they would be less visible compared to the JA diamond. You might consider a lesser priced setting to increase the diamond cost too. Call Whiteflash and ask them to do a video of their diamond for you. They are so customer friendly and have all of their ACA diamonds in house.

Thank you. I was looking at the clarity rating, and you're right - the inclusions on the Whiteflash diamond look like less of a concern, even thought the JA has a higher rating! Does the statement on the JA report of "Additional clouds, pinpoints, and surface graining not shown" warrant concern?

The arrows image on the JA website does look very good...

The JA Diamond is a VS1 so I would think most of the inclusions would not be visible to the naked eye. There are many of them though and some so not desirable. The arrow image on the JA diamond does not compare to me to the WF diamond. The ACA will be more precisely cut. However, you must decide which attributes are the most important to you. The JA diamond says not available - did you purchase it?

HI:

FWIW, my colleague has a size 4 finger and wears a 1.50 RB from Tiffany (classic setting). Looks fabu and not too large at all. Classic and elegant!

cheers--Sharon
