After hours of internet research, I'm still no expert and thought I would just ask on here for some advice. Can I get a nice quality 1.2 carat diamond for under 5k? Doesn't have to be perfect but pretty to the average person's eye.

There are several that have some up in my searches in the 4-5k range of SI2, Excellent cut, H/I color.....I don't mind some inclusions as long as they aren't obvious to the naked eye. Problem is I'm not sure how to interpret the clarity diagrams to know which would be eye visible and which aren't so bad. Do you think if I stick to the GIA stats Excellent/H/SI2 I would probably end up with a nice stone?

The links don't seem to work, but I saw these 2 on blue nile. Would they be good options?
GIA report 1218215623 or GIA report 2217006814 (both around $4,900)
or this one on adiamor http://www.adiamor.com/PDFView.aspx?AID=31160462

Any other advice would be helpful. I'm really just overwhelmed!

Try these two..

add on a 18t white gold setting and that will take you to about £5000 (Pounds)

You won't get a setting and 1.2ct diamond for less than that, despite have slight inclusions, I have kept to your specifications, but have one for SI1 and not SI2 as these tend to have more inclusions on the centre facet which is a little off putting (even under x10 magnification) also, definitly view the image of the diamond online before you buy as on some well known websites, you cannot.

First GIA report 1218215623 has HCA above 2 and strong fluorescence. It's automatically out.

Second GIA report 2217006814 has a HCA of 1.4 (excellent) but it has a 4% girdle, so the diamond won't look as big from the top-down, making your 1.2ctw goal somewhat moot.

I also personally would be weary of the I color. Strong likelihood you will see a yellow tint. I believe in sticking to G or H.

Those inclusions don't look like they'll be a problem, however, I believe that you shouldn't buy from Blue Nile. Many people are unhappy with what they buy from BN, not meeting their expectations. Buy from James Allen or Whiteflash where there is more info and images available for each diamond.
