Thanks for reading and helping in advance.

I have been looking at the below Whiteflash (WF) diamond for some time. In short, it is an ACA diamond from WF with spec 1.543ct D VVS1 with a price USD 24226. It is a perfect fit for me in terms of quality, size and price. Until recently, I have come along with the concept of diamond types. I have been told by my searches that type IIa diamonds are rare and even purer and more transparent than ordinary D color stones so they are precious.

Out of curiosity and a thirst to have the best quality, I asked WF if they are able to provide a custom cut with the same spec but the type is IIa. WF replied me yes and offered me a custom cut with a very similar spec and a price ~20% higher than the type Ia stone I mentioned (around USD 29000).

My questions now are: What is the opinion from you guys? Do you think this is a good deal to spend more to buy a type IIa stone? Is a type IIa stone much better in a way that it could justify the 20% increase in price?

I wouldn't even consider it, personally, although I will admit that I have never seen two stones of those types to compare. A D VVS superideal cut diamond is rare, white, and beautiful. The one you linked would be outstanding, and I'd prefer it over a stone that I had to commit to without seeing it finished any day.

I don't have much experience with the 2 stone types, but it's probably not worth the premium unless you are getting an "investment" grade, D FL with no florescence.

I would use the 20% price difference and get a larger stone with no florescence. Faint or negligible florescence is probably OK, but florescence can make a diamond cloudy and generally you don't want it with a D color (in my opinion).

Fluor only risks negative impacts in Strong and Very Strong gradings, and even then, such stones are not that easy to come across - Faint or Negligible is therefore zero worry on that front.

'No fluor in colourless' stones is also a 'market trend' - at one time D with fluor commanded a premium, so arguably it should make zero difference unless one is very definitely wanting to be 'in fashion' ;)

re: Type Ia vs Type IIa, there have been previous discussions around whether IIa makes a difference - have a search and see if anything comes up :)
