Hi Everyone, I have requested 3 ASETs and would like help comparing them. Please let me know your thoughts.

Below are the comments from the guy at James Allen on the diamonds:

1329757(1.10ct E SI1) This diamond faces up white. The crystal under the table is low relief and blends nicely with the faceting. It is slightly less brilliant

1323767(1.02ct D VS2) This diamond faces up extremely white, eye clean, and is slightly brighter than the 1.10ct E SI1. It is a very stunning and lustrous diamond.

1328197(1.05ct E VS1) This diamond faces strikingly white, completely eye clean, and extremely illustrious. There is a slight gray under the table but it is not offensive or affects the diamonds brilliance. This diamond faces up perfectly square, animated, and alluring.

I believe it is between 757 and 767. Is it bad to have white in the middle of the diamond like with 757? Also, any insight into his comments would be helpful.

Thanks!

Hi, cbain. Can you post the links to the diamonds, as well, so we can see the diffuse lighting pictures?

Of these three, I like the 57 and the 67, too.

But how do they look in general compared to other ASETs you have seen before? I am by no means attached or committed to any of these diamonds. Thanks.

They are very good looking. Not the level of the creme de la creme, of course. I probably didn't find much better, or else I would have posted them in your original thread.

Thanks Julie

One more question. Do ASET images look different based on the vendor that is sending the image? It seems like ones I see on Goodoldgold.com have virtually no white in the picture at all, where as the James Allen ones do. Thanks again.

I like 67 and 97.

ASET colour & saturation differences are the result of photography - camera, setup/focus, any post-photography manipulations-contrast enhancements, etc.

White represents areas of the diamond that do not return incident light to the viewer - if you are comparing to AGS ideals you will most likely see more white.

Are you saying that I would most likely see more white when compared to an AGS because the AGS is likely a nicer cut, or because of the way they shoot the ASET?

I think the 67 looks like a really nice cut, but there is a good amount of white in the pic, is this bad?

AGS gets mostly nice stones submitted for grading.

Yup - what Julie said. Most likely only cream of the crop princesses submitted to AGS, so they're likely to be the best of the bunch wrt light return (which is AGS' specialty niche in the market)

ASET is the same scope no matter who is using it - differences in the image are due to photography style, but the camera/scope/lighting setup itself should be the same.
So - one vendor may show images that are bright, vivid pink/green/blue and another's images might be faded, one vendor may show a black background while another's is white, but in all cases if you took the same stone to all these vendors the areas of colour - red/green/blue - should be the same. Is that true IRL? True enough that either you can use them to decide if you want to investigate further or take note if there's something strange with the setup that would invalidate the pics..

ETA - yes there's more white in the 67 than a 'premium' performer - it won't return light in those areas.

So, how do I find the AGS diamonds for princess cut? It seems more difficult to find for this cut than rounds. Thanks a million times to you and julieN, coming down the home stretch here!

Honestly, you're most probably not going to find any from regular listings, virtual listings, etc. because none but a few specialty manufacturers have anything to gain - but lots to lose - by sending princesses to AGS.

If you want an AGS ideal princess your best bets are branded stones - Infinities (www.highperformancediamonds.com), GOG's signatures, WFs ACAs.
