Thanks in advance,

So we are building our first home and I figured it would be sweet to propose to her on the closing day. I have been reading these forums for a while and think it might be time to buy a ring. (We close in 2 months)

What I am looking for...

Princess cut
around .8 Ct to 1 Ct
looking to spend around 4k...
Has to be eye clean, but from what I have read the images are the best route to buy a Princess cut. (Not based on the Numbers or letters)

Any tips would be helpful!!

LINK HERE TO THE RING I HAVE FOUND SO FAR

I like your pick, but VS1 is not really necessary. I think I would personally like to stick with H color or higher, so not crazy about the I color Stone selected

Here is another option to consider: http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2273548.htm

I'm not finding what I would like to see like a G SI1 or an H VS2 for you, but anyways, you have some goodies to pick from.

:p

ya, well if you can tolerate a H, dropping to an I should not be that much of a jump. My reasoning. :p

Not much pool to choose from for a princess nowadays and they suddenly seem to be in demand...

Thanks for the input, do you guys think it would be worth it to go for a g or f in color?

awesome, I appreate all the help!! Just found this one, what do you like and dislike about it? Link

some slight leakage, should not be visible to binocular vision. About the same as the first stone you found in my opinion.

For color G is my sweet spot for value, but the true colorless grades do have their appeal, as do the slightly warmer tone to the H-I stones.

Have you seen any GIA graded diamonds in person? You may want to view some to narrow your options a little in terms of color.

Stone I think that diamond inventory is generally on the lower side now except for the *most * popular 1-1.2ct G/H VS2/SI1 grades. Seems like that to me with the vendors who have in house stones anyways.

Thats a nice Princess, the leakage showing in the images is so slight that I very much doubt it is going to be visible in reality, confirm with Whiteflash.

Is it okay to go by the "Whiteflash ratings?"

I don''t think those mean much personally. ACAs are always winnders and within the ES category you need to pick and choose a little more carefully.

Sorry I keep asking so many questions.. But why do you guys think this stone is so cheap?LINK

Also, when looking thru the websites list, is there an easier way to see how well the cut is without looking at every image?

Thanks!!!

Justin

no way to tell from the numbers.

The only relatively safe way without images is to buy a stone that has AGS0 cut grade performance.

I think that is the one I linked earlier?

Looking at them all again, I think the one that Stone cold linked has the nicest ASET image. Great contrast with the bluesand reds, and aslo the reds are very spread out over the whole surface of the diamond. This means you will get brightness edge to edge. The WF linked doesn''t look as good, though it is an AGS0 so is going to be a good looking stone. But my vote would be for the .96ct I that stone linked.

Justin, is 93 your birth year

Nope 88 :P

Do you think I is to far down the range for color? If I had to spend 4500 or something along those lines, do you think it would be worth it?

Did you see the video of that I diamond? http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/6948/ Its the one of the far right. IT IS A BEAUT!!

I think it is a great value in that diamond. It is *almost* one carat, great light performance. I think unless you are a diamond enthusiast/very knowledgable you will be happy with the color. Face up it will look as white as a G/H to all but the most color sensitive, from the side you *may* notice the slightest tint in some lighting if you go looking for it.

I think bigger diamonds are always better

. So unless your gf has told you she prefers a higher color or you personally have viewed diamonds and want a higher color, then you will be happy with an I color. Worste case, GOG has a great return policy.

Have you looked at diamonds in person at all? has your gf expressed a preference?

Put it on reserve while you think about it. Lurkers snatch up diamonds talked about on PS all the time

And you are welcome!

Any recommendations on a setting? Looking for solitaire, white gold. Budget around 700ish...

Thanks!!

Look for a setting once you choose a diamond and a vendor. Most will have lovely simple solitaires in that price range in white gold.

So I am thinking about restarting my search... I am going to lower my req. from a .8 to a .7 k and going to shoot for the best cut available. Maybe looking at H color or higher and SI1 or higher. I was hoping to still stick to the 4k budget. I just cant seem to find that princess that has that perfect cut!! Any more help would be awesome.
