Hey all,

I am rather new, but after the extraordinary amount of help reading posts on this site, I am narrowing down the search for my perfect ER. I care most about beauty and brilliance, which means an excellent cut. I have decided that I am good with an H color and VS2 clarity. I could go VS1, but would want to make sure it is eye clean. I have about 15k total to spend on a ring, and since she wants a 3-stone band, it means I have around 10-12k to spend on the diamond. Obviously I want it as big as possible without sacrificing on beauty, so I am guessing somewhere around 1.5 carats or slightly more.

Using Pricescope I found two listings on Solomon Brothers. I dont know much about the company, are they a quality outletter? I can't see helpful things like IS pictures, etc, which is a shame, but they are a LOT cheaper than Whiteflash, etc. Both diamonds score in the high 3s on HCA, is that bad? Would appreciate any advice on the following two. I like #1 the most, especially due to the locations of the clouds. If anyone has other suggestions on diamonds, I would appreciate it very much! You all are the most helpful people I have ever come across on webposts.

Diamond #1- 1.59 carats, H/VS2, HCA 3.7

Diamond #2- 1.61 carats, H/VS2, HCA 3.9

Pricescope Price: $11,230
and you can request an idealscope picture.

Solomon Brothers are a lot cheaper than Whiteflash because they don't provide photos, asets, idealscope etc like whiteflash do, that's why there is a premium (along with the lifetime policies they provide).

When looking at HCA scores you want to further consider diamonds that score under 2. Buying a stone that scores 3.7 on the HCA that doesn't have images such as the ones listed above just because it is cheaper is asking for trouble because you haven't seen the stone with your own eyes, (that is why people use these tools when buying over the internet).

Do you have a budget and specific requirements within the 4 C's? Is an upgrade / buyback policy important to you? Perhaps if you give us a few guidelines we could help source out a few stones that you could look at further?

Thanks so much for the help so far. I understand both of your points. I didnt realize the HCA meter had that big of a visual effect in real life. Ideally I am trying to get the most bang for the buck with the following general criteria.

Size:1.5 and up
Color:H (I have noticed from a GOG video that once it hits I, the color change is much more noticeable)
Clarity: VS2 (my main concern is 'eye clean', so I could potentially consider SI1 if it is 'eye clean')
Cut: The best they have, the cut and brilliance are the most important to me.

Price: I have around 15,000 for the complete ER, but since she wants a 3-stone setting, that leaves me about 10-12k for the actual diamond. Could go up to 13k if its an incredible diamond.

Basically, I am not a picky diamond person (and neither is she) who needs to have certain of the 4Cs just for the sake of it. I care most about the beauty of the diamond when she or anyone else looks at it. I want it to stand out and be beautiful and brilliant, with great light return, and not have visible flaws.

Thanks for any help! You all are great!
