Hi!

Congrats on your pending purchase! I''ll be honest, I''m not loving the pavillion angle on the first stone. And just looking at the pics, they don''t look the same. Can you see how they look different? You want them closer in specs, especially crown and pavillion angles.

See if they can find a different one to match.

Why does stone no.2 look so strange? I hope someone else chimes in on this.

It''s leaking light.

Thanks Ellen!

I like the looks of the stone on the left from the top pictures (I am assuming that is stone #2, due to EX cut and the arrows, but I am no expert), but don''t like the looks of the IS image for it.
Are either of these keepers?
All of my previous effort in learning about diamonds was specific to asschers for an engagement ring, so as far as rounds go I am rather clueless.
Are there any other stones anyone can find at Excel that are worth looking at (would prefer to work with them as they did a great job on her e-ring)? Would like to stay < $2500 for the 2 stones and am not too set on color/clarity. Her engagement ring is 1.33 Asscher G/VS1/EX/EX set in Cartier 1922 reproduction.
Thanks for any and all help!
Jamie

Yes, the IS for the 35/41.2 looks nice. Ask them if they could find one to match that one, or,find 2 that are similar. I just bought a pair myself, and I''m pretty particular, so mine were almost twins. You don''t need to go that hard, but tell them to keep them as close as they can, particularly with the crown and pavillion (moreso) angles.

And tell them you don''t want a leaky diamond.

Lisa, you''re welcome!

Ellen-
The second IS picture is for Stone #2 (the one with the green ring in center). This is the one that looks good (don''t know much about IS images, but that one looked odd to me)??
Picking one stone was hard enough, picking two that match SUCKS! ;)

Wow, that is really interesting....

And yes, picking two is HARD!

At any rate, ask them to find two that are similar. You still don''t want huge variations, I''ve seen enough now to know the difference can show. And of course, this is a REALLY prime example. lol

I am curious if perhaps the IS images are mixed up. Think that could be a possibility?
Jamie

The stone on the left is stone 1 with the good IS. The stone on the right is stone 2 with yucky IS.

They are matched correctly (right now, anyway.)

JulieN-
So the GIA Cut Grade of VG is the good looking IS and the GIA Cut Grade of EX is the crappy looking IS?
Guess that goes against what I would have thought.
This is confusing...
Jamie

Yes. Stone 1 is a great choice, great price, btw...

It might be because the clarity is borderline SI2? (an uneducated guess)

That second stone is supposedly a GIA EX?

Well, that is a shining example of why I have precious little regard for the GIA grading system. That steep/deep stone is awful!
