HELP! OVAL 2.5+ Carat Diamond Needed Engagement Ring ASAP

I think they look very promising too, nice finds!! :)

but... Strong Fluorescence...

@conyankee2 - do you / your partner mind a stone that would glow blue under a UV blacklight? (and maybe even to some extent in direct sunlight!)

I am on the fence about it but you need to be aware of it, and that some people might view it as a negative.

They looked great to me too, OoohShiny! :)) The video/pic didn't show any negative effects from the SBF, but you're right -- I'd want BN to check to make sure... for peace of mind. :)

I wouldn't be concerned about the crystals at all -- it's blown up huge and I can barely see them... it's a VS2 for a reason. I'd be more concerned about the large bow tie. It's not as noticeable in a still photo, but I feel like it might go dark if you could see it at different angles.
I'm having them get the stone along with a few others so I can see it in person. This 2.82 is what I'm heavily leaning toward. Hopefully no bow tie in person!

I much better prefer the stones that msop04 suggested with this one being my favorite: https://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD08345579
I color starts to show in a round brilliant, let alone in an oval. When ovals are warmer, they look a bit dead, at least to me, as they don't have the same performance as rounds and they just look "darker". I would rather place the above stone in a halo to boost up the size, than get a larger I color oval with a table inclusion..

P.S. I would also call Yekutiel at IDJ to see if he can get you the stone at a lower price, he's been known to do miracles like that.

ah! that was a great find! No bow-tie, you can even some nice faceting, perfect color (I like ovals in D-F only), eye-clean - just yummy! OP please get this one.

...and that chubby shape!! ...I die.:love:

OP, I know the 2.84 is larger, but this stone will POP off her finger -- which is what you want in an oval... especially in a solitaire! :halo:

Thank you so much everyone! While those are nice stones, I have to admit I'm not exactly a fan of the 'chubby shape' prefer a ratio around 1.45 or so. Basically more of a classic oval shape, as opposed to an oval that is more on the rounder side. I suppose some of this just comes down to preference. Can't deny the E color though, those do look like nice stones for sure.

It's not just the color that I was talking about. It's the cut/mush... And the bow tie... COMBINED with the color. But it is a larger stone... I'm assuming that's what is attracting you to it the most?

Size is definitely a motivating factor, I'd say it just beats out color, but not by much. I can google it, but what is "mush"? And yes bow tie can't really know until I see these diamonds in person unfortunately. What makes some of you say you think the 2.8 carat one that I posted last might have a bow tie? Just from the picture? Or something about the numbers? I'm assuming picture? Thank you!

The more "spready" and "longer" you go, the more you are risking to have a bow-tie effect/light leakage. The second stone that msop04 posted, although with the same L/W ratio, seems to have "skinnier" ends which ultimately makes it look longer in my view. I am sure that others may chime in with other options.

Edit: I looked again at the I oval and I thought that it didn't seem to have great symmetry, then I saw that GIA gave it "Very Good". I am not an oval consumer, but the color + not excellent symmetry will bother me. You are spending a significant chunk of change on this stone, why compromise cut/color to get a little but extra carat weight :nono:

I understand wanting size -- believe me!! My first stone was a MRB J color that wasn't the nicest cut (2.7 HCA)... it was larger than I thought I could ever get, and I set it in a halo, so that it was only viewed from face up, making it appear whiter. Now that I have a much nicer cut stone, I can truly see the difference and it's soooo much better.

Ovals are so tricky. If the 2.86 H had a better cut, I'd say, "BUY THAT ONE NOW!!!!" but... there is mush.

"Mush" refers to the areas where there is no sparkle -- they appear dead.

The bow tie that I'm concerned about is from the picture and the fact that more elongated ovals tend to have a more prominent bow tie. I'll post pics in a sec to show you what I mean...

Here's what I mean...
2.82_Oval_bowtie_mush.jpg
The bow tie doesn't show at this angle, but notice it's huge outline. I'm afraid that if the stone were turned in either direction, it would go black.

The mush is the dark, non-sparkly area on top and bottom of the bow tie.

Hope this helps!

Great finds msop04..I still love the first one the bestest :D

Hi There!

So I was able to obtain a video of the 2.82 one msop04, thoughts?

It has a bow tie.

My understanding regarding a 'bow tie' is when it appears black across the middle. In the picture (where you circled) I'm not seeing any black and I'm not seeing very much (if any) in the video either. Perhaps I'm mistaken.

Honestly, ovals are not my specialty, but when I compare this stone to the one from BN, I see much more contrast in the middle and a pronounced "bow tie" shape in your stone. See below:

I also dislike the color, but I won't be wearing it. A friend of mine has an H colored oval and it looks tinted especially when next to white meleè. I don't favor the look, but once again, you are the decision maker.

Bow ties can go black (that's the worst)... but it's just the "bow tie" shaped area that doesn't sparkle. The facets in that area aren't pronounced, so the area is dull and won't pop like you'd want it to. Sorry, I've been off PS for a few days...

Wanted to add that I'm not an oval expert or anything... Just paid attention to the "masters" here on PS.

Wanted to add that the bow tie area does blend in the video. I'd definitely want to see it dropped into a yellow gold mounting to make sure the color is okay with you.
