Help! Opinions on 2 ct MRB

Hi all,

I’m a long time lurker but a first time poster! I’m hoping to get some feedback from you all... We are very excited and about to purchase this 2.05 ct MRB, G, SI1, triple excellent, faint fluorescent (see pics) diamond for a custom three stone ring with pear side stones (0.52 combined for the pair).

Very nerve wracking! Would love some input!

Are you tied to this diamond? Are you open to online vendors ? What is your budget ?

Hi! Thanks so much for your input! I suppose we are not tied to it, but it was sourced for us by a close friend who is a well known gemologist. We want to respect and trust his judgement if possible. We did tell him to prioritize size, but I want to make sure we aren’t compromising ‘too much’ in fire. Budget is 15-20K.

have you looked into the differences between 60/60 style diamonds and the ones that are "traditional" ideal cut? This one is a 60/60 style.

With a table of 59 and a depth closer to 60 this diamond has a flavour of a 60/60 diamond which usually means more white light return and less fire. What are you prioritizing as far as light performance?

@lovedogs we have a bit, but are definitely not experts. I know 60/60 can compromise fire but can still perform beautifully if it’s cut well. On the GIA charts I looked at it, this stone falls into the excellent category for proportions, and we are hoping since he is an expert that he would not lead us astray. But seeing all the feedback on here and those who were upset with their purchases, I wanted to double check before pulling the trigger.

@jp201845 we’re not looking for perfect light blinding fire, we just want a reasonable sparkle. HCA is 1.7– Do you think it’s fair to go by that?

Definitely check the HCA score but keep in mind it's a rejection tool rather than a selection tool. Most people on here are " perfectionists " so if you have seen this diamond in real life and are are happy with it and don't care for perfection then I say go for it.

It looks lovely but I would encourage you to look at it next to a TIC just to be sure it’s the way you want to go. It’s a big decision that is costly to undo.

All great input you’ve received... another thing to give thought to is how it plays with the pears which obviously have their own flavor. Perhaps a 60-60 style is a better match with the sparkle characteristic of a pear cut (to your eye)???

Nice centre stone. This particular stone behaves more like TIC than BIC.

@flyingpig thanks! What about the stone makes you think it behaves more like a TIC than BIC? I’m interested to hear your thought process.
