Hi all,
going to go visit WF again and I need to pick out 3 or so of my favorites for them to hold
With equal weight on size and quality and value, which one or 2 of these would you pick?

~ $10k 1.58 car, H, SI1 (seems like a decent value)

~$10k 1.51 car, G, SI1 (seems like a decent value)

~$8.5k 1.278 car, H, VS1 ACA (saw this in person last time.. i wasn't blown away..)

~$12.5k 1.51 car, G, SI1 ACA (pushing the upper end of my budget)

Thanks!

no question.
the last two.

It looks like the first two aren''t "in house."

Did you already rule out the third one??? Was there something else you compared it to and liked better ? Do you have a link to that??

I think I would also rule out the first two.....

I have''t ruled out the 3rd one (1.278, H, VS1, ACA)... When I went to WF the first time, I compared it to 2 other ACA''s of similar size.. but wasn''t like WOW to any of them...shouldn''t it be love at first sight? (i mean the diamond hehe)
maybe I should give it a second chance..

Maybe it was a little small for my taste too - but i guess its hard to judge when looking at loose diamonds .. maybe I''ll have to bring my gf in and have them place it on a 4 prong tiffany and see it on her hand to get a better perspective?

i took a look at these two "expert selection" diamonds as well
http://www.whiteflash.com/round_ideal_cut/Round-Ideal-Cut-cut-diamond-821291.htm
http://www.whiteflash.com/round/Round-cut-diamond-442521.htm

but Holloway Cut Adviser results weren''t very good.

Is a great quality 1.5 Carat for 10K going to be too hard to find?
I guess I''ll eliminate the first 2 and keep looking!

i think that we saw the 3rd one when we visited (my friend is looking around the same size)...and it was beautiful! we also saw an I VS i think and something else too. all three stones we looked at were amazing! i told my friend she''d be happy with any of them. i''d give that diamond a second chance if you can!

thanks for all the quick replies, i love this place!

mara - guess I''ll give it another chance hehe

belle - thanks! I''ll add that one to my list... I was going to try to stay at H and above, but this one looks like a great value =)

you''re welcome htownguy. i think it is definitely worth comparing.

I like that 1.56 E SI2 Expert Selection. I think it''s worth a closer look. The HCA is under 2, TIC-- very promising. I love that it''s an E. And I''m a sucker for fat arrows.

You''d have to make sure it''s eye clean, if that''s a concern of yours.

I''m a newbie so I don''t have the extensive knowledge to offer that the other PSers do but I just wanted to add that my bf was in a similar position as you in that he didn''t want to go below an H colored diamond when he was searching around. He tried to keep it within Gs and Hs but he kept going back to a beautifully cut I that had all the perfect specs.

I was not part of the decision making process until he narrowed everything down to two stones and was stumped because one was an H and the other was actually an I color but he couldn''t tell any color difference when he finally saw the two stones in person.

I was brought in (yea!) to see if I could tell a difference between the two colors and since my experience on PS has helped me form a nonbias towards color bc so many ladies on here have beautiful J''s-- I went and took a look and was blown away at how white the I was and I couldn''t tell a difference between the H and I.

So to wrap this up, there really are stones out there that are WHITE I''s (and J''s) and I''m a believer now so hopefully this helps you open up your options to include I stones and make a decision based on what you see. It helps to ask the vendor if it''s a WHITE I or if it''s just a normal I.

I''m still looking, too, Htownguy! I actually had the HVS1 1.27 on my list as well, but I had the exact same concern...just a little too small. The diamond supply is a little low right now in our size range in G-H color. I am looking at VS1''s, though, so we aren''t competing for the exact same diamonds, thankfully!

The G SI1 that you posted looks nice, and I would absolutely look at the 1.6 I color stone Belle posted. A 1.6 will be a lot bigger than that 1.27!

But to answer your earlier question, you will have to drop in color and clarity to get a 1.5 ct. ideal cut for $10,000. The one Belle posted may be as close as you can get.

Well I emailed WF to set up an appointment to view 4 of my favorite diamonds.

I had been focusing on my search for VS1 or VS2s, and anything above H, but these seems like pretty good values.
3 of them were I's (one an Si1), and another was an H. I was hoping to be able to view them to get a better feel and see if the color or cut would be an issue.

They called me back and 2 people basically told me that they are very busy and can't make an appointment with me unless I'm 100% ready to buy one on the spot.

what should I do now?

That's ridiculous. Call back and talk to someone else.

ETA: I swear to god that place is just hit or miss. They are either great and fabulous or just incomprehensibly bad.

Umm, that''s a big customer service error if I''ve ever heard one. That would be my last email.

Contact GoodOldGold. They are very prompt about returning emails, very happy to provide pictures (loads of info on each stone on the site, too), and do not require you to make a purchase decision in order to look at their stones. I realize you won''t be able to see them in person, but I have found their customer service to be excellent.

Let me add that since I have been looking at similar sizes and colors, Dimend Scaasi had a very nice H&A 1.44 H VS2 for about $10,000 (not positive it is still there). I looked at it but decided I wanted VS1 or above. It was gorgeous, though! Had a laser incription, too.

Here's a picture of it:

ETA: buying out of state will save you the sales tax, as a bonus.

Hi HTown,

I’m sorry you were frustrated. I believe the intent was merely to communicate that we’re not set up for browsing. Perhaps it could have been explained better.

Here is why: We are not a retail outlet. That’s not our business model. We established personal viewings as a unique service to clients visiting Houston to make a decision. 2 appointments command 25% of a business day for Brian or other gemologist, and with people out for the JCK show advance schedules are filled right now. As per the site, our salespeople are required to be very specific in advance to facilitate a final decision. We do this for efficiency, since the viewings are typically 1-time events with out of town clients (whereas you’re local).

We’re definitely here to help you. I understand you want to see 1 diamond you saw before in your first viewing, along with 3 others. I inquired before posting and our production manager will gladly arrange a 30 minute meeting with you if that will help.
