Hi
I am new to this forum and new to buying Ruby.
Please help me with good vendors online or any brick and Mortar vendor (in NYC lower Manhattan, near Wall Street) or Ebay vendor who sell natural rubies .
My requirements are as follows:

  • Budget for Ruby Stone: 1000$
    Type:Natural
    Color: Pigeon blood Red/Deep Red
    Size: 7mm*5mm(for oval,ascher,emerald cut)
    Clarity: Eye Clean
    Brilliance/Lustre: Excellent
Treatment: if budget is not good enough then heated is fine but no filling or gluing of natural rubies together

I am sure there must be many threads on this but I particularly wanted to specify my requirement so that I can get feedback whether I would be able to get a good stone in this range or not.

Thanks in advance
NanRu

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if anybody here were to find a ruby fitting those specifications at that price point they would snap it up as a bargain of a lifetime.

Rubies are among the most expensive gemstones and are in high demand. The better the color and clarity, the higher the price. Absent treatments your post suggests that you would find unacceptable, and I'm talking about treatments like beryllium diffusion or a ruby that's a fractured mess filled with glass, I'm not sure that the color and appearance of a ruby, at $700/carat, is going to be what you want.

"Pigeon blood" is a subjective label, and some vendors seem to think that pigeons bleed in colors ranging from near-black to pink to orange, so "caveat emptor".

To get nice, red stone in that price range with good clarity and a deep red color, I suggest considering a spinel. They're almost as hard as rubies, and were historically often mistaken for rubies. Gemfix (as an example, linked in the vendor thread at the top of the forum) offers a number of spinels that seem to meet your price point and color requirements. You can also take a look at the gems offered by Robert Genis, and compare the per carat price of his rubies (which I suspect that you'll like, except for the prices/carat starting at about ten times your price range) to his spinels.

I agree with Aaron :knockout: here is an example of the pricing of rubies (I do think this vendor is on the expensive side):

You could find a ruby in your budget if you would be willing to settle for a brown modifier or a heavily included stone. Or, as Aaron said, spinel is a good alternative, however it's still not cheap.

If I follow your requirements to the letter, it is highly unlikely that you (or anyone else for that matter) will be able to find a natural ruby that is around 1.5 carats, heat only with colouration that is graded as pure red with intense saturation for $1000. Expect to pay in the $10K range at minimum.

Can you post a picture or two showing what sort of red you are looking for?
