Imprezive - if I understand correctly, you''re now thinking about working with the virtual inventory through WF, and having them custom make you a setting?

Four things (I''m doing the same now myself with WF):

1) It can take a while to find the right stone, since they have to rely on an outside vendor/cutter/manufacturer sending them the stone, adding that middleman''s timetable into the picture, and sometimes stones you like are on hold/on show with another vendor/already sold and the listings haven''t been updated yet. Not for the easily frustrated!
2) It can get expensive if you go through a few stones to find the right one - if WF approves a stone and you don''t like it, you pay for the work done to run the scans and get the images, and return shipping (how much you pay is based on a sliding scale by value, I believe)
3) Upgrade and buyback policies may differ from the those posted on the site for in-house stones, be sure to call and specifically ask about your stone.
4) WF will not price match virtual stones with another vendor''s listing. Since I was also buying a custom setting, they worked with me and if I like the stone we would split the difference between the other vendor''s posted price and WF''s wire-transfer price.
You are correct. I''m just getting quotes right now, and the first quote was reasonable, so I think I''ll proceed with the custom CAD process, but I''m going to work a few things out over the phone first.
I''m not easily frusterated. I may end up purchasing the center stone from another vendor and have it sent to WF for setting or I may have both the stone and the setting sent to me and have a local jeweler set it.
I don''t understand #2. What do you mean if WF "approves" a stone and I don''t like it?

Just mean that if WF calls in a stone and they find that the IS/ASET/Sarin are up to par (as in, they are comfortable selling the stone - no durability issues, decently cut, no gaping inclusions, nothing wrong with the stone... I translate it as if someone wearing the stone tells someone in the market that they got their stone through WF, WF will look like a vendor of high-quality goods - which they certainly are

). This practice is definitely in the consumer's favour IMO- if they won't sell you the stone, there's a good reason why.

Gotcha, thanks. That is a good practice. I was hoping to find something in their actual inventory to make things easier, but we''ll see. I''ve got about 2 months to figure it all out.

Most vendors, including WF, get new shipments of diamonds every 6 weeks give or take. So if they do not have something in their in house inventory now they very well may have something soon. Ask you rep if they know when the next large shipment is due in, then that might help you to decide if you want to wait for the in house diamonds or order from the virtual inventory. Also, depends on if you want a common color clarity combo or something less common, for less common you might need to use to virtual inventory no matter what.

Good to know! I''m waiting on my tax money and I''ve sort of set a mental date in late may, but she isn''t expecting anything till about July, so I actually have 3 months

Once I fully understand WFs pricing policy and I have money in hand I''ll start really searching and when I find the right rock I''ll pull the trigger regardless of the setting situation.

The angles on those are not great. Here is a tool to help you narrow your options: http://www.pricescope.com/cutadviser.asp Enter the relevant information and then look at the score. You want a score of 2 or less. If they score less than 2 they are worth evaluating further!

I''m getting a lil better at this
