My BGD studs are getting worn to death!! I wear them every single day, day and night, regardless of the occasion! I'd like another pair of everyday earrings. I'm planning this waaaayyy ahead of time, probably 1 year out. But I know that, for me, anything that is not well thought out, carefully planned for, will not get worn and it'd be a complete waste of money....been there, done that, not going back again! :nono: Also, the second pair needs to be in the same league as the BGD studs, bc I have several cheaper pairs of earrings which are sitting at the back of the wardrobe, unworn and unloved.

My criteria are:

- I'd like them to be as sparkly as possible, I'd want them to be disco-balls!! I'm not a subtle kind of person :cheeky:

- My BGD studs are 8.6mm and I almost always wear them with jackets, so the overall diameter is probably closer to 11-12mm. I'd like the new earrings to be at least 10mm or preferably larger, and white or near-colourless (ideally no lower than H, but I may be able to go down to I colour).

- I prefer studs over dangly earrings, bc I lost a 1.5ct F dangly earring a while back so am a little reluctant to go this route again.

- The new earrings should also be in diamonds and set in WG or platinum, bc I tend to only wear white jewellery the most.

My options are:

1. Get another pair of studs, precision-cut, like AVC's or AVR's. My concern is that AVC's are cut deeper and face up smaller. And they seem to be fewer in availability, even in singles, less alone a matched pair. If I go the AVC route, I may get them permanently halo'ed. Also, cost-wise, is this a realistic option (both lines carry a premium, no)?

2. I'm open to antique-cuts, but again finding a match in a higher colour would be difficult. Also, would they be disco-balls enough? I read of large pastel flashes but I'm guessing that this effect is nicer for rings, not for earrings, is this correct?

3. Van Cleef Frivole earrings - at the risk of sounding obscene, will I wear these? They are very cute, almost too cute!! I'm concerned as well that they may not be comfortable to wear or easy to match with my other jewellery, as they may not be "neutral" enough. I love love love VCA, but I think their earrings are either too mainstream (like the Alhambra line - Please I don't mean any offence to those who have or like them, they're just not me, at least not in earrings; I love them in pave necklaces and bracelets though), or they are too high-end and horrendously expensive (as in not "value for money", if one can even talk about VCA in these terms, lol) and too elaborate and therefore may not be very wearable either (like the Snowflake or Oiseaux de Paradis or Flowerlace lines).

http://www.vancleefarpels.com/us/en/collections/jewelry/floral/frivole/vcarb65800-frivole-earclips-small-model.html

4. Another option (I can't think of any right now, lol). Please give me some ideas.

So, ladies and gents, please help me plan ahead. Whichever option, please if you could link me or post pics if possible. Thank you.

Budget-wise, $50-80k.

I would rule out cushions right off the bat because, as you said, they face up smaller, and hold weight in their "booties". Also, i would go bonkers trying to make sure the two cushions were symmetrical on each side of my face, that is both turned the same way, if that makes sense.

I'm suggesting option 4 because the rest seem too similar to what you already wear. I saw an episode of Live with Kelly (US show) with Salma Hayek as a guest. She was wearing the most amazing pair of earrings. They looked like either MQ or ovals at least 11mm long. I could see them even as the camera moved away because they sparkled so much. I can't find a clear enough pic to show you but it was the episode where she wore a one shoulder black pantsuit with her hair off to the right side.

I'm a value shopper and can't believe I'm saying this, but...

I love the VCA Frivole! Like baby monster, I don't see the point in buying another pair of large studs that differ from your current earrings mainly in the way the center stone is cut. The Frivoles are beautiful and unique, and they look like they'd be very comfortable to wear. I think you might find yourself reaching for them a lot.

(But if I were shopping for myself, I'd be following Sharon's links and looking for a nice pair of danglies!)

Oh goodness, this is easy! I surely wouldn't do another pair of studs with another kind of diamond.

My vote of those options is Frivole, definitely! I love the small pair in white gold or pave! I think the pave is more dressy, so I would go with the white gold with diamond center for daily wear. You do need to try them on, of course.

The other beautiful VCA option is the pave white gold Alhambra earrings.

The other great option that is not drops but does hang below the lobe are these Whiteflash hoops which I think are classics and a fantastic pair:

i of course vote for VCA, as everything there is to die and if i could afford it, I would have half the store.

I actually love those lotus earrings M2B posted, equal to the frivole with diamonds.I wish you liked the Alhambras, i just saw a good deal (if you consider almost 18K a "deal") on some pre owned diamond ones...

Perfect picture, Dolly! That is absolutely gorgeous!!! Lucky Phoenix to be able to wear these!

I would have nowhere to wear those, but that is why I am more of an Alhambra, Frivole girl!

Such beautiful earrings!!! Ohhhhhh...

I am not buying, sooooo FWIW/IMHO those earrings would have to sit perfectly for the best "result". Rings of that design are easier than earrings, because piercings, lobes, and ears in general are not the same...from side to side & on the same person. It wouldn't work for me but that doesn't mean it wouldn't work for others!

Since you already have diamond hoops, I suggest a large cushion or oval dangle--set simply to wear on the hoop. And with your studs. And with an enhancer to wear with your Rivera necklace. And pearls. Or worn on a simple but sturdy white gold chain. Or a charms on your tennis bracelet.

cheers--Sharon

Phoenix are you sure you wouldn't consider the magic Alhambra with diamonds? It checks all your boxes. ;-)

Another vote for the lotus.

And I actually like this pair a lot. Fun, lots of attitude, super fabulous and unique. I bet this is seldom ever seen IRL. And with your budget a relative bargain.
http://www.cartier.us/en-us/collect...gs/n8050700-panthere-de-cartier-earrings.html

I have seen those Panthere earrings in real life and they are a bit- WHOA. Not in a bad way, but not in a "i could wear this all the time" way. That said with a budget up to 80K, maybe you should get one pair that is a bit more wearable and one pair that is a bit more extraordinary...of course this only works if you are open to these more "fun" earring styles.

Also I like how all of us have effectively gone crazy with posting and Phoenix is no where to be seen- HAHAHAHAHA

I know what you mean, PB. I have a pair of rectangular-shaped studs and it drives me a little nuts when they move. Square-shaped cushions would not be as bad, I reckon. And if I were to buy cushions, I'd have to halo them.

Actually, one of my best friends has a pair of halo'ed oval earrings, they're really beautiful. I certainly would not rule out ovals, but wonder how sparkly these are compared to precision-cut diamonds. It'd be nice if I could locate a matching pair of ovals of a higher colour and of a larger size.

Wowza, Sharon. Thank you so much for posting all these ideas!

A few things though: I wouldn't get yellow diamonds (sorry, I should've clarified). I already have a pair of halo'ed yellow diamond earrings, albeit much cheaper than the Tiffany version and not exactly the same style. But I hardly ever wear them, I think I'm just not a yellow kind of gal.

As far as dangles or drops, I wonder if I could get someone to make me a pair that's comfy to wear and yet super super safe. I'm so paranoid about losing another earring.

I'm not looking at clustered earrings. Again, not my "thing", but I appreciate your posting.

Please keep the ideas coming. I'm having so much fun just thinking about the possibilities.

The Frivole are certainly beautiful!

I've actually tried them on and they felt a little uncomfortable for 2 reasons: 1) the posts are super short and I usually like them super long, but I believe VCA could lengthen them if you ask; and 2) they don't sit flat against the ears bc of the design, but this could be a matter of getting used to them.

They're certainly a serious contender though. And since I'm a little of a match-matchy kind of person, I'd like the Frivole earrings to match my (future) Frivole rings - these: :Up_to_something: . But I'm wondering how often I'd reach for them (as mentioned, I know it sounds a bit obscene and I hope I don't offend anyone). These days, I'm saving all my pennies and instead of buying lots of mid-range items, I'm concentrating on fewer but more higher-end pricier jewellery. In fact, I'm thinking of off-loading more of my unworn items bc they're being wasted unworn and unloved.

DS, why not another pair of studs? Not even of a different cut? I kinda fancy the idea of larger antique studs. Tell me, do you find antique cuts to be less of a disco-ball kind of sparkly than super-ideal H&A? What about AVRs? Are they not more suitable for earrings (compared to rings)?

I already have 2 pairs of hoops and hardly ever wear them.

I tried the Alhambra earrings, but they didn't wow me for some reason. I''ll try them on again, just to be 100% sure.
