Help me pick diamond earrings for my pretty wife! 10K Budget

Greetings,

My wife lost one of her diamond solitaire earrings while we were running.
We looked all over the place! So frustrating!

Anyways, the previous earrings were bought at Zales (don't shoot!).
Here are the specs on the ones we lost from the GSL Card.
This wasn't the best diamonds.. or the best deal.. but we didn't know that.
Wow did they look good on her ear!
1.52 carat
Clarity I-1
Color: F-G
Cut: Good
5.80x5.70x3.60mm

After reading threads here over the past two weeks I want to buy online.
We want to move up to 2 Carat.
Here is what we want
Size: 2 Carat to 2.50 Carat.
Color: F-I (it's on the ear... so it doesn't need to be colorless )
Shape: Round
Carat: 2.0 and up
Cut: very good to Ideal/excellent
Price: Around 8-10K. Obviously if I can get it lower the better.
Setting: 4 prong in Platinum or white gold

1. I am looking at Blue Nile and James Allen. Do I need to look anywhere else?

Whiteflash.

Raise your clarity to SI and drop your color to J/K in accurately graded stone. The ones you saw were probably not "real" F/G stones.

You really don't need higher color in earrings, they face up white and no one gets to see them from the side where the tint is visible. And no one gets THAT close to ears.

I looked at those 2 stones - Thanks for the suggestion. They are different claritys. Are they matched enough?

Thanks for the suggestion. It lists 1 of these as not being eyeclean. Is that a concern?

Ignore me if its not eye clean. (Although some people will ignore eye clean for studs bc no one goes up to smell distance in your ear to examine the clarity of the diamond.) Go with what Gypsy says. She probably picked out specific stones that match or are eye clean. Even better, call Whiteflash personally. They are SUPER A NICE AND EASY TO TALK TO. Tell them your budget and what your overall goal to buy a pair of matching stones for studs for your wife. They will suggest stones to you and can check them right there for eye-cleanliness. They can match stones for you, that aren't already paired up. They have a big inventory. AND they can help you choose the perfect setting too. You will see a variety of stud settings on their website and you can go through those with them as each has pros and cons. For example, a six prong martini setting will make the stone look rounder. A four prong more square. A flat base might keep the studs from drooping on her ears. Or maybe you know she likes the smaller base. Chat with them. They are very helpful and you will feel a lot more confident in what you have purchased. It doesn't even feel like buying over the Internet. It's like talking to your wife's best friend and having her help you with a purchase.

I had. 1.1 that I put into a stud and I called them and they found me a match, down to the measurements of the stone. They looked at the colors of the two stones to make sure there was no noticeable difference. My stone is an F. The matching is a G. These are diamond people. They have good eyes. My experience with their customer service has shown they are committed to making you happy with your purchase. Don't be shy. They want to provide you service.

I bought my ering stone at BN. Bc their stones are not pre-chosen for the highest quality of cut. You aren't always assured of having a beautiful stone. Even if you choose a 3x stone with an HCA below 2, it can be a dud to your eyes. My first stone was. 2 carat HCA OF 1.0, F VVs1. Winner right? I got it and it just did not sparkle to me. Had to send it back. Did better the second time. WHITEFLASH's precision cuts their own stones (A CUT ABOVE) to very exact specifications to ensure the highest quality cut, which is what makes a diamond beautiful and sparkle. They have ASET images that tell you exactly how the stone performs. They are graded by AGS which grades light performance which in a MRB generally tells you how beautiful and sparkly a diamond will be. BN just buys stones cut from all over the globe, many of which they have never seen. The most they have is the GIA certificate. Not that there aren't pretty stones on BN, but they DO NOT precision cut their stones for the best light performance like WF does. And in the end it's the cut that makes the biggest difference in how beautiful a stone is, barring major issues with clarity and color.

Caveat. BN has a signature line that they do have on site that should be very wel cut. However, if you are gonna pay that much mor3 bc that line is more expensive, why not buy a proprietary cut by WF. BN does not cut its own stones.

I strongly agree with the others that if you are going for new diamonds, go for quality this time! I have Whiteflash studs and they are gorgeous! I would not personally go down to K color, though. I would rather see you at the .9 each level in I-J color. These probably would look bigger than her other pair even if they were the same weight due to being better cut.

I agree with Diamondseeker! I-J is the way to go!

I only went down to Ks because I found Ks with medium blue fluorescence, and Ks look white against my skin tone - Mac NC 27-ish...

Awesome! The great thing about WF is that you can upgrade will full diamond value credited towards the new diamonds. I have had mine for years but upgraded a couple of times! Although it sounds like you may have gone for a forever pair this time!

Whiteflash recommended heavy friction backs. Would la pousette work better?

Heavy friction backs should be very secure. If your wife wears the earrings for awhile and she finds that the backings are not as secure as she likes, call WF and discuss your options. But the heavy friction backs should do the job for normal wear.

Since your wife has owned diamond earrings before she probably already knows this, but... keeping the earrings clean is probably one of the most important aspects of keeping them looking and performing their best. I use a clean cloth - think vintage hankie (clean, of course! ;) ) to hold an earring when putting it in the ear. Regular cleaning is also a must, especially for anyone who has long hair that will transfer dirt and oils to the earrings.
