So while I wait for the right diamond, I have been deciding on settings.

I have 2 existing bands that I will wear the new ring with but I can't decide between a plain band or having stones in the band. I also can't decide if I should have a donut so they don't sit flush or without, so they do sit flush.

Here are the pics.

Current bands:

Options for new ring: - But would go with a single claw not double claw. Love the way the prongs curve, rather than straight. Also will have a thin band like the blue diamond band. The diamond will be a 2.5 - 3ct stone if that makes a difference.

Would love any and all suggestions. Thanks so much!

Anyone have and suggestions / advice??

I would go with a plain shank on the ering. I think the key will be playing with bands to find a proportion in width along the finder and height you like. Or, carry calipers and borrow lots of friend's rings. I think you may end up wanting something taller than you might think so it looks like a deliberate vs. a gap between the existing two with diamond hoving over it. I think plain bands offer a nice visual break in stacks of bling, personally.

This is it with the Tiffany classic solitaire.

I don’t think a knife edge band works but something rounder perhaps???

I do love this for a pave band... but it might be too much.

If the plain was lower and rounded...that's the ticket. The sides of the band need to be below the culets of the bands, but you want the center higher. What about a triwire? Have a look at the shank on the bezel here. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-new-vram-iris-solitaire.216262/
You'd have to go custom, but for a simply soliaire with a good bench, should be really affordable.

I am going to limit my advice so that it only concerns your existing bands. I think they sit up pretty high and any ring close to you finger, even with a donut, is going to be problematic. For your bands, I would consider a cathedral designed shank. As a general rule, I also recommend that you send your existing bands to anyone you want to make your setting. So they can keep the bands on hand for fit.

The knife edge ring above looks like it has a cathedral or a raised head. That's why it works.

A ring with tiny pave is not going to work with your larger diamond bands. It would not look right to have three different sizes of diamond bands, and a low shank on the engagement ring means more danger of the diamond wedding bands cutting into your prongs. That is why a setting like the Tiffany works as the head of the ring is high enough that the bands probably won’t cut into the prongs. I have a knife edge ring and it goes great with every band I have ever tried on. But certainly you can do a round shank. The head just can’t be low or the bands are going to damage the prongs. I like the look of a small doughnut and it keeps your engagement ring shank from getting all scratched up. So definitely a plain metal setting but with a medium height head, like Layla also mentioned.

I had the 2 bands made to be the same height. Do you think it would look better/less chunky if I get the blue band slightly lower than the princess band? They built up the underside of the blue band to match so I presume they can take some of that out to lower the height off the finger.

Then the ER shank wouldnt need to be as high either.

But I wonder if differing heights for 2 bands and the third being higher will look ok?

For reference the bands are 2mm high from base to top of diamond, then just the prong tips above that which I’m going to get taken down a touch!

Princesses are 3mm and blues are 3 pointers so 2mm.
