To preface, please pardon my ignorance/lack of knowledge when it comes to rings/diamonds...brand new to this. I am ready to buy an ering for the gf and she finally has decided on what she whats. We were walking through the local mall a couple of months ago and she saw a ring at WhiteHall Jewelers. And ever since she saw it, she can''t seem to stop talking about it or of it. So I figure this is definetly the type/style to buy. It is a halo/pave setting with a round center stone. The pave diamonds are set in the band almost randomly and run across 1/2 of it. Between the halo and center stone, there is no real transition (meaning a piece of metal or gap) so it is very clean/smooth looking. They make it with 14k white gold and I think a total weight of 1.00 carats. Below are pics from previous posts that are closest to the ring.

I would like to get a platinum band with a higher grade .9-1.2 center stone (looking to spend 7500-10000 total). I went back to Whitehall the other day and they said they could restyle it for me. However, I feel a little uneasy about buying the most important item to date from a mall. Am I wrong? Anyways, I defintely need to use this style/setting, etc. I don''t have any pictures of the ring I am speaking of, but if any of you go by Whitehall in your local mall I think you will know what I am talking about.

Do any of you know who can make me this ring or has a ring that is very very very close? I guess I am being really anal about this ring because I feel she really decided on this one and I want to get her a better quality ring than what is for sale in the mall.

Welcome to PS!! Check out www.whiteflash.com www.goodoldgold.com and www.jamesallen.com All have similar settings and their stones are top notch. Read the tutorials on here about cut. Cut is key to buying a beautiful diamond. We will be more than happy to help you along the way.

Oh, you have come to the right place! And you at least had the right gut instinct not to buy the ring from a mall store! The quality is nothing like you''d want!

Round halo settings are popular and not terribly hard to find. I''ll look and see what I can find.

What is your budget?? How much do you want to spend for the stone and the setting. All the links you have been given are great. But Mark Morrel isn''t accepting any new orders for custom work at this time.

Thanks guys for the quick replies! Diamondseeker...I am looking for something that has less "structure" to it. Meaning , the pave diamonds aren''t all in a line and there is no real separation between the center stone and halo. JulieN is on the write track with the links she gave me but not quite there. I think the center stone is sits up to high on the band and there is a little too much going on.

Again, i apologize if I am being a total pain in the butt about this, but you guys seems to know what you are talking about and I would love to annoy you and get your insite to get the perfect ring :)

And again, my budget is in the 7500-10000 range with a center stone of .9-1.2 carats.

tlow, I think we''d just like to see you get a high quality setting and not one that is cheap looking or trendy and could quickly go out of style. There are halo rings that are bezel set, and there would be no separation between the diamond and halo. But I''d love to see you get a micropave ring that was a little better than the one you pictured. We''re just trying to steer you to a little better quality! I''ll try to look more later if I get a chance!

tlow,

You''re best bet will probably be to go custom so you can get exactly what you are wanting. Since Leon Mege looks to be in your budget, I''d suggest having him make it and you can use pics from his site along with your description to come up with a beautiful high quality piece. The only other premade setting that I can think of that is close is made by Michael b and the setting alone is 10K. The ladies have given you some wonderful options. You might also look at www.Ritani.com. they have a ton of styles, are very affordable designers rings which are well made and they might have something you''d like.

Yup and make sure to check them out at www.pearlmans.com Good luck!!!

This is what I''m hearing. Your girl likes the pave in what I call "blanket" style. Here is an example. What about having Whiteflash make a ring similar to their prong set halo, making both the band and halo somewhat wider, and using the blanket pave? Is this closer to your image?

They could do all of this, including a kick *ss center stone, for under $10k.

Oh, good suggestion, mrssalvo and Kaleigh! I saw the Ritani halo rings last week in person and they were gorgeous!

I was looking for a very similarly styled halo ring for a while and I had a lot of the same requirements that you do. I didn't want to see an "edge" and I also wanted a wedding band to fit underneath the halo. This was my favorite ring that I found that fit all my requirements. It's by Martin Flyer, but it's not on his website. He calls it a donut ring rather than a halo. You can't see any kind of edge in person and the center stone flows into the halo with no seperating line. It is beautiful in person. My local jeweler carries it and I've seen it done up with a 1 carat center stone and it looked stunning on the lady's finger. I thought her center stone was SO much larger until I asked the jeweler -- I think the thin band makes the center stone look even bigger too. What state are you located in?

those last 3 posts are definetly the "look" I am going for! I am located in North Carolina, but frequent California. I will also be in Vegas in a couple of weeks. Are any of these jewelers near these places? I am definetly willing to pay to fly to see these rings in person.

My jeweler is in Chapel Hill, NC! She carries the Martin Flyer that I posted, so you could definitely go take a look. Am I allowed to post the name of non-forum jewelers here?

Oh, duh, I thought about it and you see non-forum jewelers names here all the time. Okay, the jeweler that carries the MF in Chapel Hill is Grimball Jewelers. Ask for Kathie, she''ll know the setting. They carry ideal stones also, so you can see one dropped into the setting.

Hi, I'm in NC, too! Hands down the place with the best selection of settings is Diamonds Direct in Charlotte. But since I wasn't looking for the same style setting, I can't tell you for sure if they had one like you're looking for.

The one that PriceScope posted might be your best bet. I imagine you could pay for them to send it to you to look at and then they'd refund your money when you returned it. (See site for exact policies.) If you liked it, they'd have to make a setting in her specific size, and then you could have the vendor you buy the dimaond from set it. Reliable intenet vendors generally understand the need to see things and return them if they aren't satisfactory.

But come to think of it, if she's only looked at mall stores at rings, you might want to take her somewhere like Diamonds Direct to look at a wider selection of high quality settings. She really might see something she likes even better. There diamonds are not as good a deal as the ones are from vendors on here, though. But it is a great place to look at settings.

Ok next question, I will probably be leaving NC to live in California in 2-3 months. Should I buy the ring out there so at least it is somewhat local? Or not worry about it since it may be coming from a place like NYC anyways.

So I went back to Whitehall to take another look at the ring. The ring is 1.00total weight with .5 carat center stone. After speaking to the lady there I had a few more questions...She said that platinum is more mallable than gold thus I "may" have problems with the pave diamonds falling out or one of the prongs on the centerstone bending. I understand what she is getting at but it seems to me if you have good desginer/builder that knows what they are doing they have already thought of and encountered this problem...yes/no?

Next, my gf''s ring size is a 6.5 or 7, she is small-medium build, with "normal" hands...meaning not long and elegant but not short and stubby. With the Halo/Pave setting, the top portion/head of the ring (is there a specific name for it?) might appear to large if I get too big a center stone. The lady at the store brought up the point if you look at the ring from a couple feet away, to the untrained eye, it looks like 1 stone. My gf does not want to have a "huge rock" on her finger but rather something that is in proportion to her hand/finger size. And after looking at the picture from a different thread that diamondseeker replied with...I think that lady''s ring is a little too big in the center for what my gf wants. Don''t get me wrong, that ring is gorgeous and she definetly wants something like that only proportionally smaller. With that said maybe go with a .6-8 carat center stone?

Any thoughts? Questions? Comments?

tlow, that lady''s ring was FOUR carats!!! I promise that a 1 carat stone is fine for a halo. In fact, I wouldn''t want a huge one either. But one carat is not as uncommon as it once was, and she''ll be really glad she got a 1 ct. later on! Don''t listen to the people at Whitehall. They are trying to sell you what is in their store! We''ve had a bad story or two from there posted on here. Do a search if you want.

If you want a good quality diamond and setting, it won''t be from a mall chain store in most cases (unless you have Tiffany or Bailey, Banks, and Biddle in your mall! But you really don''t want their prices...just the quality!)

Ok here is what I am talking about...solely based on the pictures one of these two is definetly going to work:

These were posted by Imurden and Matadora respectively...sorry for ripping off your pictures. The thread can be found here: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/show-me-your-rings-with-halos.27882/page-5

Does anyone know who makes these rings or how to get into contact with them....or at least Imurden and/or Matadora

Whoops, try again...here is Imurden''s:

Here is Matatora''s: by the way, don''t need the blue diamond centerstone:)

The blue one is a lab created diamond, and I don''t think you can get the ring separately.
