Hello again!

I wrote a topic 2 weeks ago about my diamond hunt ( https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/help-color-vs-size-what-to-choose.201815/ ). Me and my fiancé were not quite ready to buy yet but now we are!
We are wednesday night, we will go in stores tomorrow and friday night to see and try rings on (and be sure about the style to get). We have yet the stone to find. So this is what we are looking for:

- We are from Montreal, Canada and want to buy a stone + setting online (so much more affordable!). I am not sure which company is the best my we are more appealed by James Allen and it's rolling-stones feature. It is reassuring to see it on every angle before buying! I know about other companies (Blue Nile, Whiteflash, Brian Gavin, Good old gold) but I've never bought diamonds online so I just want to make the safest purchased.
- Max budget is 2200$ US (or 2400$ CAN). We want to add a 200$ CAN setting (simple 6 prongs solitaire in white gold) for a grand total of 2600$ CAN. With taxes: 3000$ CAN. It is hardly impossible to stretch that budget!
- We are looking for the biggest diamond within those specs: VS2 clarity or better (could easily go with SI1 if eye clean), Excellent cut (and polish/symmetry if it is important), G-J color
- About color, I know G-J is a big range. I'd prefer G but would sacrifice color over size. Like I said on the other topic I don't mind warmth at all but I really don't want a yellowish stone... I've seen very few diamonds in real life, it is really hard for me to imagine (we will try to see different color stones tomorrow while shopping). I know in my price range (less than .75ct) it is not going to be too noticeable. Somebody told me that J stones look like urine next to white gold or a diamond band (my wedding band will be covered with G-H small diamonds)... I don't want to believe that but it made me unsure of my color choice!

In summary we want the best white looking stone we can afford! I am not looking for a stark white diamond, or perfect clarity but cut is definitely important.

Can you help me find this gem? I am not looking to upgrade it in the future so I want it to be perfect :)

Good news! Here is a solid option available for you (under budget, even lower with Pricescope discount):

.603ct, F, SI1

Thanks for the suggestions!

What about my "fears" about J color? Should I go with it? (I can find .70 ct and +)

As long as you don't expect it to look colorless, J is totally fine for rounds under a carat.

Is there a big difference between I or J? I often see people commenting that the lowest they can go is I.

From the pavilion view, on a white background, yes. face up, one color grade is difficult to tell apart. The round is so idealized for light return that it covers up color very well.

Colour is a really subjective thing what is O.K or really cool for one person is not O.K for someone else. Do you have a bricks and mortar store near you that sells GIA graded stones? If so go and look at some G/H stones and some Is and some Js and some Ks. They might not stock the best cuts at the shop (they usually have average cuts to bad cuts in these type of stores) but at least you can go and see the colour difference. You might decide a J or a K is O.K and that you would like a larger stone or you might decide you cannot live with anything lower than a G or whatever colour.

If your wedding band is going to be a G/H colour then I would go no lower than an I in colour.

We are going tomorrow to take a look and will go to the higher end stores of our area (Birks, Tiffany's). Hopefully we can see a large color selection. I really hope I like J color because it seems to fit my needs: better size for money, slight warmth for a vintage feel but no yellow hue.

That's a really good idea, I am not sure if Tiffany sells J colour, I seem to remember they stopped at I colour but I could be wrong. If you have a Hearts on Fire dealer near you ( I don't know if Birks carries that brand), then stop by and check out those of similar size to the ones you are considering.

You have some really nice selections from the others above, let us know how you get on!

I just got an eyeclean SI1, I, . 78 round, xxx gia (cut, sym and polish) from b2c jewels. Love it!
