Lately I was considering to buy an oec for a bezel pendant. I was just casually browsing JbG, and I have found a bezel set heart pendant, which I surprisingly really liked. The heart has a really chubby lovely shape, but the color is a little bit too deep for a fancy cut for my taste, and it is set in YG, and I would prefer WG.

I was really surprised also by the size of the stone, i mean how big it was in comparison to the carat weight, so I just thought to myself why not look on JA for a heart shape stone. I have found one which I really like, it is K color, 1 carat, and has a price under 2800 USD, but I’m quite hesitant to post the link, because I’m afraid a lurker could buy it.

So basically my question would be, what should I look for if I’m looking for a heart shape diamond. I know with fancy cuts the numbers doesn’t tell anything, and I should ask for an ASET, but maybe someone can point me to some important factors to look at before I even ask for an ASET.

Or maybe even better: could you post some suggestions? My budget is around 2500- 2800 USD. Color could be at lowest K, and clarity VS2.

Thank you in forward.

Basically the same thing you look for in other fancy cuts...sharp, well-defined facets that reflect light well under table and minimal mush. As the stone turns
more facets should light up or come into focus (under the table).

I'll post a few that have nice faceting pattern .

Most of them look to have thick-ish girdles. Some have a more splintery faceting pattern (that are returning light well) under the table but I* prefer
the bigger facets under the table. Shape would be up to your personal preference.

**Edit - look at the stones above to see if any of them might work for you.

Tyty333 - i was happy to see, that my favorite is also suggested by you.

I’ve tried to look for stones with chunky facets, which light up as the stone moves.

On the other hand I was looking on PS, and my favorite stone does not have the recommended proportions. I think I have to ask for an ASET.

I personally really love the .8-.9 ratio, resulting in a chubby heart. I have a GIA .7 carat F/SI2 diamond pendant set in platinum, although I really don't like the setting and therefore never wear it. I bought this heart from B2C based on just a crappy picture, an ASET seems like a good idea, LOL.

I was also looking b2c jewels, but they don’t always have videos.
Regarding setting I would like to have a bezel like this:

I find it cute, but not too girly, let’s say feminin.

Unfortunately numbers dont really tell us a lot about fancy cuts. To me, good up close videos tell more. Asets are nice to see but they are only a snapshot
of the stone and dont tell what the stone is doing when it moves. It is nice to see that the "snapshot" is a good snapshot though.

HappyNewLife...that looks like a pretty heart...I encourage you to reset it and wear it (if you have any cash left after your major upgrade!:))) I love
the Jbg bezeled look with the heart at a slant!

IMG_2390.JPGIMG_2361.JPGB2C will send photos and videos if you ask. I also had the gemologist look at it to give his opinion, and he said it was good so I bought it and it looked good so I had it set.

I'm going to list the heart on loupetroop today. I've had it for a year and just don't wear it due to preferring my bezeled mrb pendant. I reached out to IDJ for a quote on a halo ring for it, but given my (ahem.... major) upgrade happening right now, I should NOT spend more $. Sorry to threadjack - but if interested in a .7/F/SI2 (I don't see inclusions with my loupe), head over there later

Whitewave - I love your heart shaped rings! I've sent b2c an E-Mail, and they promised me to send me a video as soon as possible. I cant wait, because I have found a 1 ct. K SI1 for under 1900 USD. Im really curious how it Looks.

tyty3333 - as if you have consulted with my James Allen consultant! I asked for an ASET, and he replied as follow:
"Unfortunately, there is no imaging available for xxx.The good news is that the magnified videos on James Allen will actually give you more light return information than an ASET, since ASETs only show one angle. You want to see a nice mix of white, grey, and black in the facets that constantly moves as the diamond rotates. This one has great play of light in the facets, and I would definitely recommend it. "

HappyNewLife - thank you! I'm going to have a look at it, although i have to accept, I would prefer near 1 ct.

By the way I also have looked on ID Jewelry, and they also have a promising nice heart, and I'm waiting for a video.

Oh, good. Keep us posted. I had a good experience with B2C and I found them to be speedy too. The bezel ring was made through CAD. You can look at the dates in my "little rings" thread on show me the bling.

I put one stone on hold at JA, and unfortunately other vendors haven’t sent any videos or ASETs yet. JA has offered me a milgrain bezel setting also - even at 25% discount right now - but I would need a little bit customization, in order that the heart is at a slant. Let’s see what it costs.

This is the stone what I put on hold:

If someone has better suggestions, just don’t hold back, I would like to see!

So I've got an update:

ID Jewelry has sent me a photo and also a video, which I can not open unfortunately.
This is the picture:
IMG-6552.JPG

It is J, VS2 and 0.93 ct. and the price is under 2.400 USD. Measurements: 6.10*6.54*3.93
I hope, he can send me the video to an other E-Mail address, where I can open it.

B2C has sent me also a picture:
8418045 - Real image.jpg

This stone is 1 ct, K - SI1 and has accordingly a better price, 1.894 USD. Unfortunately no video. The measurements are: 5.85x7.21x4.19, so quite big for ist size. They also gave me an offer for the setting in 14 kg WG. It would be the same as my inspiration item above, and would cost me 850 USD. I find it quite high. What do you think?

So I have 3 contender, the JA one is the first, what I have posted earlier.

I like the JA the best up to date, but I'm still waiting for the video from ID Jewelry. Which one do you think is best?

I decided not to buy the b2c Stone, as the setting would cost too much.

By ID Jewelry I'm still considering it, but Joey stated, I can only pay by wire transfer from oversea, and I would prefer PayPal or CC.

So the JA stone is my best choice at this moment, but they still haven't qouted me for the setting.

So I have been looking at a few other vendors, like Adiamor. Is there someone who have bought from Adiamor, and has a good experience? I have found some interesting stones. What do you think about these:

https://www.adiamor.com/Diamonds/0.96-ct-H-VS2-Excellent-Cut-Heart-Diamond/D40744730
The facets seems nice, big and chunky, and it has a much better color, the price is almost the same as from James Allen, and the size is also the same. I haven't found any settings on the site, what I would like, but this I could also do locally.

On the other hand I also thought about to increase my budget, and I found this stone on JA:
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/heart-shaped/1.41-carat-i-color-si1-clarity-sku-3331938
It is the double of the price, but the size is significant bigger. Do you think it is worth the money?

Regarding vendors I assume a few of you are going to remind me about the upgrade policy, but for me this is no question. I'm located in Europe, and an upgrade or a return is impossible for me because of the VAT, so this is going to be a final sale for me!

Please, help me to decide!

If you're not going to upgrade, I personally would get the 1.41 carat and be done with it if you can afford it. It looks nice and juicy, er... fat. I love fat hearts. The inclusion on the table wouldn't bother me since it's not black. Yep, I'd go big.

I'm pretty sure IDJ takes paypal

Whitewave- yes of course they take but not from overseas customers, as Joey has stated to me.

Update: I have bought yesterday the 1 ct. K VS 1 heart diamond in the custom setting, designed like my inspiration setting see above. I have asked for the PS discount, and they really kindly offered me at about 5%. I was really happy about it, and happily accepted of course.

For the custom setting I was not able to use the 15% discount, but I was happy to get the PS discount.

I have paid by wire, so it is going to take a few days until it arrives there.

The process was quite smooth yet, and I hope the payment arrives quickly, and they can start the production.

Now, I just have to wait, and this is the hardest part!!

I can't wait to see it!!!

whitewave - there are then already two of us! :)

Just for fun: the 1.41 ct heart is already sold! I'm sure, some lurker snatched it up! I just looked for fun for some similar stones, and I haven't found any in the inventory of JA at this moment! I hope someone is going to enjoy that stone, but at least he/she could say thank you! ;)

My pendant just has shipped today, although it was scheduled originally for 28.11. I’m so happy! Can’t wait to have it!!

My pendant arrived today, and much to my dislike not in the setting, which I have sent a picture of to JA. I'm really furious, as this pendant setting and chain is their stock milgrain setting, which "had to be modified to fit a heart", and they charged me 595 USD for it.

Returning is not an option for me, as I have already paid the VAT of 20% for the whole package. It is not allowed to open the package, before I have paid the VAT.

And what I really haven't understood at JA: I was in correspondence with at least 6 people because of one order! I mean if so many people are involved, information is predicted to get lost!!

I'm really-really furious, as it is going to cost me here once more 600 € to fix the setting, as it flips now continously!!

Once I already had a problem with JA, but I think, this was my last problem with them, because next time I'm going to order from someone else.

Did they send you the diamond unset? Could they have wanted you to approve the diamond first?

Rockysalamander - the diamond is set, in their stock setting. Basically it flips everytime, so I have bought a 3000 usd pendant to see the backside. :angryfire:

That was the reason I wanted the setting with the 2 loops, to prevent the flipping.

Oh no!!! I would still contact them and make them fix it and pay for any international fees to send it back and forth. No way you should not get what you want. It seems like JA starts to fall apart once they get with high volume of sales (from their own setting sales). I'm so very sorry for this!

Of course I have informed them immediately, and they also replied. The sales assistant told me, she has to contact the upper management in this case, and because of the holidays it could take up to 48 hours to get back to me with an answer.
She offered me to return the item for a full refund, but it is not a solution to me, as the VAT would be my loss.
So let’s see, what they come up with as a solution.

I guess that is something, but jeez....you didn't ask for a highly complicated or intricate setting they had to make from gold mined from invisible fairy farms.

RE: VAT...for my edification. So, you paid VAT when the pendant arrived. You would have to pay it again if you returned it for repair? What if the pendant was mailed to a friend in the US who then sent it back as a gift once repaired. Is there VAT on gifts?

As far as I know I can’t claim back the VAT, even if I return.
So if I return, and they send it to me once more, I have to pay once more the VAT also :snore:

Really?? If you buy from overseas and then need the item repaired, they charge you VAT twice? That's a bad as the tax I pay every year to just own my car.
