I recently got engaged, the ring is Blue Nile's petite pave cathedral ring in white gold linky size 6.5 (needs to be a 6.25 though) and my diamond is a 0.37 pear Very Good, D, SI2. Proportions are 6.12 x 4.12 x 2.47 mm... tiny, for these boards really. That's where my problem begins.

I thought with such a thin band (1.5 mm) on my e-ring it would make the diamond seem much bigger, but if anything it feels as if it shrinks down the diamond right along with it. I only have til Jan 15 to possibly return the ring, so I need suggestions and quick! If anyone could help me find a setting that would help my little pear not seem so little, or a wedding band that would help it, PLEASE let me know!

I know a halo would do wonders, but I'm not sure I could find one in my price range (Preferably less than $800, we're in college). I LOVE sidestones, which is why we chose this ring originally, but unless my ring has just the right lighting, the sidestones almost just look like a milgrain. Finally, I live in rural midwest far from any city and would prefer to not have to do any work through the mail unless it is a company like Blue Nile, James Allan, etc.

Sorry the picture so bad, it is from my webcam, my digital camera is broken

lovely ring.. i was in your shoes too.. 23 years old, post college and had a .5 pave pear and traded for a .8 princess of less quality. now i miss my sweet little pear. sorry i haven''t been much help, but your pear is beautiful.

Congrats on your engagement! It''s a beautiful ring and looks great on you! Have you ever considered bezel setting your pear? With a well done bezel setting, the metal on the outside of your pear will give your eyes something more to look at and can potentially make your pearl look bigger. I''ve seen some beautiful bezels in SMTR. You can then have a diamond wedding band to go with it and I think that would be perfect. Good luck and I hope that helps!

I too think it looks beautiful! I dont know if I would return it. I''m not sure if there is anyway to make the stone
look bigger besides a halo but maybe a ring with more of a presence like...

something that tapers toward the stone may make it look larger

A cathedral that sits up higher or draws you eye to the stone...

I''m assumming that these can be made to hold a pear. You would have to contact bluenile.

I think you ring looks lovely, and delicate. Congrats on becoming engaged:-) If you want your pear to have more presence I agree a bezel or halo would help. Also, a slightly wider pave band (I'd try 2mm) might give it some oomph, plus the pave will be a little larger so it will sparkle more:-)

If you want to go that route, I'd call Sheerah at Whiteflash and ask her if they could do either of those options for $800.

Also, go try on some wedding bands and see what you think. I think a delicate pave wedding band, or a shared prong half eternity, or maybe even a slightly wider plain metal band would give you the visual presence you are looking for.

Oops, not sure it matters, but the specs are actually 6.31 x 4.12 x 2.47

Thanks for the replies so far guys. I am hoping to look at wedding band Monday with my fiance so maybe we''ll find something that helps.

Could anyone give me a link to show me what you mean exactly by the bezel setting? I''ve seen some before and never found any I really cared for, but maybe I''ve just been looking at the wrong ones. My pear sparkles like crazy right now and I don''t want to lose that, will a bezel affect the sparkle at all?

What does everyone think of this?
linky for RING
(NOTE: The diamond that shows in the link is not my diamond, just a similar one to give you an idea)

-Will it take too much away from the pear?
-Do you think I will be able to sit a band flush with it?
-Will the band just make my pear look smaller?
-Do you think the cathedral part of the ring will reach up closer to the diamond than it shows in the picture so that I don''t see so much of the band of the ring beneath the diamond?

Any and all opinions are greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

I think it is a pretty setting and I think it will help to make your stone look a bit larger (but not sure how much).
You will be able to set a wedding band flush with this. Here it is with its matching band.

I think the taper towards the main stone will help to excentuate your pear. Also, if this setting sets up higher
than your current setting it will also help it to look bigger. You might want to measure how high your stone is
off from the top of your finger for a comparison.

Here is a bezeled pear...

EDIT - here is a "show me your pears" thread. Might give you some more ideas.

I wouldn''t halo a .37 pear as I think it would overwhelm the stone. What I would do is change the setting. A very think plain band and have it sit higher.
