I’ve just bought an emerald cut amethyst, it’s a big stone and 10mm deep. I want to set it in an Art Deco halo style setting. Has anyone got any ideas for a gallery? I like this one but would welcome some more ideas... 8C5EF86D-0D91-45F0-A12B-83AC53F38104.jpeg

Oh there we are - something in between these sizes for the halo.

I have these saved in case I need to refer to them:

I am going to reset my Asscher cut natural blue Topaz which is quite deep as I find the currently setting too plain for my liking.

I was not too concerned when I saw the CAD, however, I felt differently when I had the finished ring in hand.

It will be set as a 3-stone instead of a 5-stone with one pair of the traps which are step cut white Topaz. All stones cut by Doug Menadue of Bespoke Gems fame, with a bar across paved with diamond melees, with a larger diamond in the centre, hope that makes sense from the inspiration drawing below:

Hi DK - I l really like your topaz ring it looks so beautiful top down on your finger! However I totally get why you think it looks a little plain from the side. Of the inspiration pics I like the 2nd and 3rd best. Look forward to seeing the redo!

It would be easier to have a stone that is not so deep but hopefully this is an opportunity to do a really beautiful and elaborate gallery that I wouldn’t have the room to do otherwise!

Ooo, I forgot to mention how I have planned to set my two Asscher cut stones as they are quite deep - a blue Zircon from Jeff W, and a medium blue lab Sapphire from Gary of Finewater Gems.

Both will have a halo: the blue Zircon with a Rose Gold bezel and an air gap withe rest in WG; the blue lab Sapphire is likely to be all WG and set at 45 deg angle, both with plain shanks.

This is the gallery I have in mind for these two stones (it may still work with the stone set at 45 deg, however, have to wait and see) - simple lines with a big of added sparkle:

I hope you don’t mind me spamming you with pics. I’m not sure if these are your style or not but it’s a good start.:mrgreen:

@elle_71125 spam away :D
I’m loving the galleries on 2 and 4. And the face up designs for 5 and 7 are very lovely and perhaps food for thought moving slightly away from my initial idea. The stone I have bought is not dissimilar in proportion to that aqua.

@dmack thanks it’s a gorgeous ring I think that design would be too open for the stone though as I think I will end up with about 7-8mm gallery height and I want to fill it up a bit :)
