Hey everyone, I am in the process of changing the setting for my round brilliant diamond engagement ring. I have ALWAYS wanted a cushion cut stone and want to find a cushion halo setting that will make my round diamond look like it blends right into the halo to give it a more realistic cushion look. I also prefer more rectangular cushions as opposed to square. Can anyone recommend a good jeweler? The TOP of my budget is $2500. I visited Lauren B Diamonds today in the diamond district and they have EXACTLY what I want but the setting is 14kt white gold and $2500 when I really prefer platinum. Also, I am not too familiar with this vendor...can anyone please offer advice on the vendor or recommend another one that can offer what I am looking for within my price point?

Thanks!!

Don't know anything about the jeweler, but have you looked at gabrielny? I just did a search and these 2 cushion halos can fit an approx 2 ct RB stone.

You might also want to look at Beverly K for affordable halos. I believe GOG carries Gabrielny while Pearlman's carries Bev K. These 2 brands are fairly affordable.

One of my favorite round stones in cushion halos has got to be Jack Kelege's Imperial Crown Collection  but for the price, I would rather go for something made by VC or Steve Kirsch (who also have cushion halos for rounds)

LuvDoll has a 2ct RB in a cushion halo by Starlight or Star something or another. I remember looking it up online and the halos were around 2.5k. I also contacted WF at the time to see if they could do something simiilar and they quoted me in 14k WG for also around 2.5k. They was also at least 2 or 3 years ago when the price of gold was lower. I think it might be hard to find a similar setting in PLAT within your budget.

I agree with Sarabear. I think your budget is really going to be limited if you want plat. You will be a little hard pressed to find what
you want in gold for $2500.

Whiteflash has this one for $1800 in plat. You can see some pictures of the setting with stones in it at the bottom of the page.

This would probably be around your price range but it doesnt really have that seamless look that you want

Ones that might be in your price range in plat

You can take a look here for other options. I think they will make the settings to fit a 2 carat but it might cost you more money.

Wow! These are all some really amazing suggestions - I am going to spend some time over the next couple of days looking through them...I was trying to find the stock photo of the ring I loved on the Lauren B Diamonds site but have had no luck! The stock photo always looks different IMO than visually seeing the ring in person so if I could find the stock photo of the ring I love I can compare it to ones from other sites and have an idea of what it might look like in person (sorta make sense?)...I wish someone who has worked with this vendor could comment! My biggest concern is dealing with lose pave stones since halo settings can be tricky...I don't want to spend $2500 only to have to get a stone replaced every couple months if you know what I mean!

Also, do you think if I had the stone set with double claw prongs it would give more of the cushion effect since it sort of squares off the round edges of the stone ?

ETA: This is along the lines of the look I am going for - I just wish I could see the ring in person before purchasing!:

WHY are some settings SO MUCH LESS than others?! The setting above is nearly $700 less than the one I looked at in the city and it looks so similar (can't say exactly the same since I haven't seen this one IRL) to the one from lauren b.

There are price differences due to quality of the diamonds, due the brand name, due to the manufacturing process used, due to the carat weight of diamonds, theweight of gold or platinum used in the setting, due to the country of origin, etc.

You could look at the cost of having a plain shank and just diamonds in the halo around the stone. That would also eliminate most of the risk of losing pave' stones. It's been my experience that the ones in the shank are most likely to loosen or to be knocked out.

But my immediate reaction is that you can't get what you want for that price in platinum. I've been looking for a high quality halo setting for my diamond that's 7.8mm, and I haven't found anything decent in white gold for under $3000.

Gabriel rings are really pretty in person. Here is a video of one from Good Old Gold with an August Vintage Cushion. Obviously, you'll set it with a round, but I tried this setting on in person and loved it. Gabriel has so many pretty halos. I don't think you could go wrong with any. And, they are affordable in my opinion.

In July, I was quoted $2800 for the "Heather" halo at ERD. http://www.engagementringsdirect.com/heather-bezel-micro-pave-halo-engagement-ring-bpid-259-16.html

ERD also makes a Harry Winston style halo, which is super popular: http://www.engagementringsdirect.com/ada-a-classic-micropave-halo-diamond-engagement-ring-bpid-81-15.html

WoW! You all are so helpful, I think I am going to schedule an appointment with ERD...I really like the look of the Ada halo!

What exactly should I be looking for to determine the quality of a halo?
