Sparkal- Thanks for your input. Did your designer happen to give you any ideas of how to attain this ''idea'' but still not lose the formal feel. I''m having a hard time joining the two concepts.
Meresal - Good question. Simple answer. Not really.

They created a mock up of the ideas we generated together and presented it to us for approval. We loved the end result because even though the STDS are more "fun" they tie in perfectly with our formal invites. The invites will have our monogram as well and will have the same filigree or scroll work in our Pistachio and Gold colors as well and will either be fully letterpressed or have some letterpress elements, possibly the monogram, for example. I''m thinking that the way it was "attained" this idea in this case was to incorporate some of the formal elements from the invite while injecting a bit of personality ... just enough to achieve the right balance. The design is still clean and elegant but just a little more fun. Not everyone would agree but it works for us and the guests we have heard from so far are loving them.

If you are interested, by all means feel free to take a look at my PS STD thread blog (she has some good ones of the front - scroll down to the "Save the Dates by Brown Sugar Design") as they have MUCH better pictures there.

I hope that this helps in some way.

I know how difficult it is to achieve that sweet spot that still says formal but allows you some room to be a little bit of fun.

Well I thought these were simple and clean as well. A very similar look with a slight twist. But its white and not ivory here. They do however, cost less. They also happen to have coordinating invites and such as well. But with the look you are going for with the STDs, almost anything for invites could coordinate anyway.
Dreamgirl, this one is so pretty! It is elegant, but not plain. I think your suggestion about adding a ribbon or small crystals is a great one. I went to a wedding where the bride put two or three small pink crystals on a couple key spots on her invitation, and the effect was incredible. I''m going to see if I can find it to take a picture . . .

I was thinking something like these......

The bottom one I was thinking bubbles with the champagne color you wanted (not sure that''s the exact color but you see my point) you could always jazz them up somehow like that. I don''t know.

Thanks! I think so too.

Crystals could make or break the card though. Too many would look bad but just a few could look very elegant......(plus it wouldn''t cost much to change it with a little somethin somethin)

Here's one that's similar but would allow you to add a hint of color (champagne or silver perhaps?) with the ribbon. It also has a small crystal on it too.
(ETA: This was taken from the Alaun by Design website)

Meresal--SORRY! I the second option is exactly the same. I accidentally pasted the original text, not the updated text. I meant to write:

Option A:
Please make plans to join us for
our wedding
on Saturday, July 8, 2012
Lake Forest, Illinois
(And then you could include your full names at the top or the bottom of the card)

Option B:
Please save the date for
the wedding of

Miss Bethany Marie Halliday and Mr. Stanford Curtis Blingalot
Saturday, July 8, 2012
Lake Forest, Illinois

Of course, you can play with the wording. I just shifted the POV so it was consistent in each option.

Don''t worry about what is "right" or "correct" for your stationery. If you prefer to keep the save-the-date formal, keep it formal! I don''t find your original choice boring at all. I know that the trend lately is to use bright, colorful, funky stationery for weddings (even invites!) but I really believe that less is always more, and your original choice definitely looks refined and elegant to me, not boring. In the end, it''s only your opinion that really matters, so choose what you like best.

Also - I ditto Haven''s suggestions about the wording ... She is just so incredible with that stuff! Haven - I think that you should provide wedding wording assistance professionally. You''re terrific with it.

Thanks, sweetie! I''d love to go into that business, I wish there was a market for it! (Then I could stop grading papers . . . )

I love the crystals idea...so much so that I think I''m going to steal it ;) Love some help on my STDs as well...you guys are fabulous!

I love the crystal idea AND the STDs posted by Loves Vintage and dreamgirl.
