Hello PS'ers! I've been stalking PS for about a year drooling over all of your sparklies and finally decided to join! I loooove colored gemstones, but am fairly new to the game. I've learned a lot from reading all of the posts here. I need some opinions on this ring that I received from LOGR today. I love the setting and it really sparkles, but I'm concerned about how lightweight it seems. The band is really, really thin! Love that it looks delicate, but afraid it might break at some point. I would love to get feedback from anyone on whether this is something I should hang on to or try to return. Also curious what you tourmaline lovers think of the stone? This is my first one. The picture on ebay made the stone look more red, but I was disappointed to see that it's really pink in real life. The ring was listed as a sample and therefore came with the center stone in. I'm not sure if it's worth what I paid for it or not...

These pics are not great, sorry about the lighting. I'll try to get some better ones in natural daylight tomorrow. The last ones are the pics that were from the ebay listing...just a bit different :wink2:

I have that same setting. I love how delicate-looking it is, but I don't love how delicate it is, if that makes sense. Fortunately, I rarely wear the ring so it's not a problem for me.

How often do you think you'll be wearing it? If it's everyday, I'd be concerned about long-term durability issues. Will LOGR even take it back though since it's been set?

Hi B.E.G.! I know exactly what you mean about loving how delicate it is, but nervous about it at the same time! I don't think I'll wear it everyday. I'm not sure how hard the stone is and I don't want to scratch it up too much... The ring came with the center stone set already and I'm pretty sure LOGR said they'd take it back, but I'm trying to decide if I even want to go there...decisions, decisions!

Wow that is pretty!!! the setting does look pretty thin...the stone is pretty I just got my 1st pink tourmaline and I read that the hardness on the stone is 7-7.5, not sure about scratching as I dont have mine set yet...it sure would look good in a setting like yours!

The setting looks a lot thinner than the other LOGR settings I’ve seen. This is probably a ring that I will baby carefully and not have it be an everyday wear ring. If you are concerned about the durability and still within the return window period, then do consider returning it for a full refund. It is a pretty setting though. Generally, most PSers purchase the center stone separately as it allow greater control; we can choose the perfect colour (to us), the right shape, size and budget. I see a lot of orange in LOGR’s tourmaline picture and wonder if this one might have a tendency to become muddy or brownish under indoor lighting. I do not know how much you paid for it though so I don’t know if it’s worth it. If the price is low enough, every stone, setting and ring crosses that threshold and becomes worth it, faults and all.

It depends on how much you paid for it. The tourmaline is a poor color, very brown, from your photos, but you could always use the ring for another stone. I do not suggest people buy stones from LOGR. The diamonds on the setting are nice and sparlkley, but it is light weight, and it is something you probably need to wear with care.

I would probably send it back. I hate jewelry that has to be babied. I buy jewels to wear, not to worry about.

I would want to say that the photos of the ring you took seems like a different stone from the sellers photo ..

Crikey that is a skinny ring! I love the look and have something similar but it does look much more lightweight than the LOGRs I own (especially the bottom of the shank). I would agree with others that if it's an everyday ring (and Tourmaline isn't the best stone for an everyday ring) then I would perhaps be worried about the long term durability. If it's an occasional ring then it wouldn't worry me too much - dependent on price paid of course!

In terms of the Tourmaline - colour is king in coloured gemstone world and if you don't like it, or it's not as you expected then you're probably better off returning it. Some pink tourmalines will go quite brown in incandescent lighting. Unfortunately that's just how they are. If you're looking for a redder colour Tourmaline then you need to look at Rubellites - although again I would caution that some turn brown as well. The better ones don't but then you pay for that! Rubellites are also typically more expensive than pink Tourmalines.

Bottom line, do you love it or just like it? Would you have any regrets if you sent it back? That's what I measure most of my purchases by!

Oh and :wavey: welcome to the forum!

I have 2 of those settings (plus 1 I had for a while that I gave to my sister for her bday this year) so when I get home I'll look to see if my shanks are that thin.

I wore the ring I gave to my sister occasionally for 2 years and it's held up well. Only lost one melee and luckily, it lost it in my jewelry box.

Wow, thanks for all the help PS'ers! I'm attaching some daytime pics because those nighttime ones were so horrible. The stone really is very pink and sparkly with flashes of orange, but my camera kills the sparkle and makes the stone appear very brown. Yuck! Plus you can't really tell from the pics that the setting is rose gold. I love the ring, but the thinness of the band is really concerning! I paid $250 for the ring plus $20 for re-sizing and shipping. Worth it? I'm not sure... I'd love, love, love it if it were just a bit sturdier. I've e-mailed LOGR to see if they'd even be able to do anything about it now...we'll see.

For $250, you may want to consider keeping it if you like it a lot. The pink tourmaline quality isn’t that good but it looks to be cut well and is suited to the setting. When looking for a pink tourmaline, people usually avoid modifier colours like orange.

That's good to know Chrono. Like I said before I have zero tourmaline experience so all of your info is helpful! LOGR said they would take the ring back, but will charge me a $30 "micro mounting fee". Doesn't it seem like that is something that should be charged for when you purchase and not when you return? I'm not asking them to remove the stone if I return it so why would that fee be charged now? Seems odd to me  I do like the ring, but overall am just not very excited with my LOGR experience. It's disappointing since I have been admiring some of the PS LOGR pics for awhile! Plus the ring box mine came in was all smashed to bits so no box to store it in :(sad Basically if I return it I'll be out $60 with all the fees and shipping so I'm not sure if it's worth it...maybe I should just keep the ring and wear it carefully as you all suggested.

Keep it, it's a round setting, you can always find another stone to put in there, and a jeweler can always reinforce the shank or prongs. Did you have to customize it for your ring size? If so, they will charge a $30 fee for an jewelry returned with any customizations.

I have 3 of these rings and they hold up fine so far!

I love thin bands and I wear both a 1mm stacking ring and a purple sapphire ring with 1.5mm band everyday and i have had no issues...I think you should wear it and enjoy it!

i think it's a gorgeous setting. maybe not that sturdy, but were you planning on hanging a cow from it? just take care, am sure it'll be fine. and it's not that expensive, so no big loss

well, i decided to keep the ring =) it's really pretty and i do like it a lot. i received a somewhat nasty e-mail about it from LOGR so that was a little disappointing. i just asked what the fee was for and if it was a customization fee why is it not charged for when you buy the ring? they wrote back that i need to understand the work that goes into pave and if i'm not willing to pay for it not to buy something. they mentioned that they lose money on these settings. i was a bit taken aback. i did not, not appreciate the work that goes into a ring, i simply had a question about the fee. i suggested that they add the fee to the return policy on their listings. also, if they are losing money on listings that is not my problem, maybe they need to start their auctions at a higher price then...
anywho, thanks for the input PS'ers!

Did you customize the ring size? Just curious. If not, he shouldn't be charging you a $30 restocking fee, unless he has new policies now.

Wow, that’s not nice of LOGR. Regardless of what you wrote and the issue of customization, he should have replied in a more courteous manner!

i did have them size the ring a half size. it would have been helpful to know beforehand that that would incur a customization fee if i decided to return it. i mentioned that and they said they would add that to their returns info on the auction pages. it is still just odd to me to charge a customization fee if returned, but not when the actual customization is done...

I wonder if LOGR considers the ring sizing customization based on what you wrote. I know that the ring sizing fee is non refundable.

He has written in his listings that customizations including ring sizing, have a non-refuncable $30 fee. I assume it's his way of getting back some money for the shipping fees (although he's charging for that now), and to make people avoid returns.
