At first I was only thinking of getting princess cut and spent about 2 month looking and reading all about diamonds. But the more I browsed different websites and gazed at diamonds (especially when they are in the setting) the more I liked round diamonds. I also fell in love with a swan setting from WF that I believe only goes with a round stone
http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/swan-solitaire-engagement-ring-by-vatche-310.htm

As a result I decided to check some round diamonds. What do you think about below diamonds from JA?

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1311892.asp HCA=1.5
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1326595.asp HCA=0.9
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1334207.asp HCA=2.5

I also picked some princess cuts:

Also JA does not have the setting that I like. If I buy diamond from JA should I send it to WF? How does it work?

I appreciate any comments. Thanks for all your help and this wonderful forum

All 3 rounds could work from the numbers, just request for idealscope image to confirm. The SI1 is due to clouds not shown, so I would request that stone to be looked into by the JA gemologist to make sure that the grade setting cloud does not impact the beauty of the stone if you are interested in it.

Not liking any of the princess cut because of the big tables.

Regarding the setting, as it is from Vatche, Vatche will be the one setting it in most likelyhood, you could probably send it to WF but check with them or see if Vatche has a local dealer near you and go through them?

All three RBs could look like nice stones, as SC said.

If you want to nitpick, you've got very different "makes" here, and I think if you lined them up you'd see that they look 'different' thanks to the table sizes/crown heights, and they perform differently in different lighting environments - the first shoots out bright white splinters but not as much colour in as many types of lighting as the second.

There's no universal "best" look or performance type, but one usually appeals to a person over another.

Yssie, thanks for explaining. I saw that the first stone appears whiter than the second but I thought that this is just the picture. I want to make an appointment in JA and see these stones in person.

NP - its a subtle difference in live performance though, you won't see in static pics

re. the princesses - the I VS2 is significantly non-square if you mind
would inquire if the SI2 is clean to your specifications and request ASET if interested

For the princesses, I don't like the first, I VS2. Image is too dark, table is too large.

JulieN, Yssie, Thanks again.
I really don’t get what are the good proportions for princess cut. I have read that the table can go up-to 72 for princess and it is consider being a premium cut. Do you know if there is something like HCA tool but for princess cuts?
Would you mind giving me some examples?
The more I am shopping the more I am leaning towards the round stones but want to look at the princess also just to compare and understand the difference.
Thanks a lot!

Nope, nothing like the HCA for princess because there are too many variables for a princess and not enough information available in a GIA report.

I guess it makes even more desirable to get a round cut because it is so hard to choose princess especially if you don’t see it in person.
I called JA and asked for ideal scope for one of the diamond with HCA=0.9. I will post it here when I get it.

It's shallower, showing some obstruction.. if you really like the size and the price and esp. if you/your intended is fair skinned/light haired you could investigate further

So I spoke with JA gemologist and he confirmed that the best stone was 1.33 I VS2
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1326595.asp

1.32 H SI1 has a clouds, as SC predicted.
I also asked about 1.51 I SI2. The gemologist said that it’s not bad but shallow. Yssie was right.

So he recommends the first stone.

He sent me ideal scope for the first one. I am attaching it below.

I will make an appointment to see both diamonds in person next week. I really wanted 1.5 stone but understand that I have some budget constrains.

Also what do you think about the prices? Are they reasonable?

1.33 I VS2 - $6944 ( with PC and bank wire discount )
1.51 I SI2 - $6638 ( with PC and bank wire discount )

Thanks!

looks great.

I would say that price is reasonable for a 1.33 ideal cut with those specs.

picture perfect IS, but you're going to see the stones in person and your eyes' opinions ought to trump any analyses - I think you'll know which is yours when you see and compare the two :appl:

ditto.
