Help me choose a an Oval Diamond

Earmuffs - endearing name - might look different in person. Just a guess.

PS: I did not post prices in order not to bias the discussion but all are around 4000USD, apart from the MED Fluro diamond which is 3550 USD. So which one would be best bang for buck?
the 1.03 G is very good deal.... i think that would be best one for the $

BTW: it's not listed on the US online vendor sites yet... might be too new or they re avoiding tariffs etc....... report date 6/12/25 ? $3,550 is much lower than prevailing US market prices... might go quick $ once listed over here.

Yes, i checked as well on stonealgo.
Think it is worth it with the MED fluro risk over the 1.04 G vbs1 from IGI ( assuming they are true to the grade) for a 500 dollars difference?( 1.04 G VVSI from IGI is more expensive)

go with freddy.

I was almost set on getting the G 1.04. I liked the 1.03 MED fluoro diamond as well but was worried about how it would look in natural light.
Will make a decision between these two hopefully in the next couple of hours .

I have an Asscher and an emerald cut that have fluor, they look fabulous in sunlight. Zero haziness.

Well I only buy Natural if they have FL - (Strong / Very Strong).... (great differentiator from the Lab Diamonds) And MED would likely be unnoticeable except under Black light....

I wouldn't go with IGI for a Natural Diamond....

Many thanks!
I went with the 1.03 MED FL. I really likes the virtual facet paterns and sparkle.
Just waiting confirmation that stone is still available.
Appreciate the reassurances about the Med FL. Will revert with further info and real life videos provided I get it.
Also got price slightly wrong. It is 3850 and hoping for a 5% discount( this is including shipping to me)

So glad you made a decision @mkpbv ! Sometimes when you get too much information, it bogs you down in over-analysis-paralysis!

Now, stop worrying (and looking) and wait until it gets here! Fingers crossed that it fits the bill!

Thanks for weighing in @Karl_K ...I forgot you have your hands full behind the scenes right now!

As is my luck, the diamond is no longer available so need to pick another one.
Very tempted to go for the IGI 1.04 as I do not seem to have many other options :(

OP
Not sure I am qualified to pick a diamond for you, I also come here for that kind of help from the diamond divas. One thing I would like to add for your consideration is that it used to be that companies like IGI had a much looser color grading than GIA. It used to be that an IGI stone could be graded 3 grades less by GIA. Perhaps the experts can weigh in if this is still the case. I will stand corrected. If this is still the case, the ago old axiom still prevails….”you get what you pay for”. Bottom line, there are no deals in buying diamonds. Have you considered calling some of our very trusted diamond sellers such as Whiteflash or Brian Gavin Diamonds to find the stone for you within your budget?. I cannot give you a name at WF but in the past I have dealt with Leslie at BGD and have never been disappointed. Yes, I am a BGD fanboy. Good luck.

Well, that stinks, but it does happen.

You do seem to keep going back to the 1.04, so maybe its worth taking a look!

Yes. I did bite the bullet and went for it.
I liked it, Most people(including you said it looked good). I know it is IGI and everyone is very cautious of them but been staring at the stone for a while and while it is a G on the certificate, I can’t seem to imagine in real life the stone being a J or I.

Can you return it if you do not like it?

Yes, vendor that does offer this but I won’t be able to as I won’t have time to get another till the proposal date.
Worse case scenario, I will change the stone later in the year and might take a small loss on this one.
If I decide to change it I was also thinking of sending it to GIA for Grading as an experiment. Not sure if they would accept stone already graded by IGI.

bummer - that was a winner at that price...... You have to be careful when you post something good on Pricescope... lot's of lurkers out there with eager trigger fingers and $ to spend on nice well priced stones... (that one had a 6/12 report date didn't last on mkt 2 weeks)

IGI would be an avoid for me unless priced 1 grade lower for their reported Color and Clarity...

You really should have looked at some Med/Strong FL D/E/F's ..... they get discounted/priced so end up selling close to GIA H prices.... ovals hide some inclusions so lower clarity can be case by case... for Ovals, color they do show esp. tips.....

Haha. Did not think about lurkers on pricescope for good quality diamonds. Lesson learnt. It may well have been as you said as the stone was available till the last minute and disappeared after I posted in the last couple of days. It is what it is.
I did check MED FL but good rocks were still pretty expensive. The one posted was an exception.
I did learn quite a few lessons. Hopefully the color is not that bad with the one I picked. Price was 4100 for the IGI 1.04 G VVS1. Could not really find a GIA close to this but also had limited time and was pressured as due date getting closer.

Leaving here 3 links that helped a lot:

What a hassle. I think the stone would have to be removed from the setting for GIA to grade it. Wishing you the best of luck
