I really need help! I want to propose on V-day and I want to go ahead and buy this diamond tomorrow! Would you buy this diamond? It scores in the 1-2 range on the HCA. The price is for the diamond alone. I''d like to buy the diamond loose and then maybe get it put in a setting from a B & M. How would insurance and everything like that need to be worked out? Would it need to be insured before I get it set in the setting from the B & M or would they take liability for it? Where are places you can go to get an appraisal.. I''m from a town near Fargo, ND and there aren''t a ton of independent appraisers around. I''m a beginner in buying diamonds and really need some good advice. Any help soon would be greatly appreciated!

So far everything looks great. Is it eye clean? Do you have any ideal scope images?

oh yeah, there are images... I''ll copy and paste em on here in a sec!

I don''t see the need for an appraisal if it is from a well known vendor. It already has a grading lab cert telling you the specs. I would also try to have it set by the vendor to eliminate the insurance complication. If you do that, most vendors will send you an insurance valuation and you can have it insured as soon as it arrives.

Here are the Idealscope and ASET reports.... it looks to be fairly eye clean but I''ll ask the WF rep tomorrow for sure! I think I''m gonna go for it if its eye clean!

Ditto what DS said if it''s from WF. Unfortunately your pics aren''t showing up for me, can you just post the link? You might want to reserve the stone first to avoid snatchers.

That looks great! I''d still have WF set it in their lowest price solitaire for the engagement, and then let her look for her dream setting after you surprise her! But this way, she can be wearing the ring until she decides.

For some reason the idealscope won''t paste to here so here''s the link for it.... I guess the reason I was thinking about getting it set by a B & M was because I want to make sure its a setting my girlfriend likes in person... we''ve looked at some but not sure exactly what she wants yet..
I could see it this time and it looks very good! The stone looks great!!!

I think it really complicates things when you get it set at a B&M. However, WF has a return policy. Why not either set it in a cheapo stock setting from WF and pick out something later that she likes or set it in what you think she would like from the WF website and propose within the return policy in case she doesn''t? I think the legato micopave is a very nice setting if she wants something delicate. But they also have some lovely solitaires and three-stone rings too. Do you have any idea of what kind of styles she likes?

Thank you for all your help! I think what she likes the most are either solitaires or some pave type settings...With both of those, she wants the band to be able to fit well with another delicate small pave band... so we don''t think a cathedral setting will work because those are hard because the cathedral-ed part sticks up higher than a normal pave band so, in turn, they wouldn''t match up... she might want 2 small pave bands on each side of the e-ring so you think just go with a solitaire or what other pave or something similar type bands would match well with 2 pave bands, one on each side? any ideas?

I would definitely go with a plain solitaire if she wants two pave bands. I''d go with the Legato or the Tiffany Classic.

I think I would go legato micropave and matching band for the 2-3-pave thin pave bands a la ritani: http://whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Diamond-Settings/The--Legato--with-Micro-Pave_1071.htm

Either would probably be fine for her though and both would look lovely with a thin pave band!!
