Help!!!! Is my new eternity band too tall?

Hello everyone,

I really need your opinions badly!! My jeweler just finished my eternity band and I picked it up today. It seems so tall!!! My engagement ring band is 3.25mm wide x 2.5mm tall (height). I asked the jeweler to make the eternity band 3mm wide x 2.5mm tall. He said it is a little bit taller at 2.7mm height but it looks super tall to me. Is this normal looking? I can have him re-work it if I wanted. But I wanted to ask all of you first.

He also made a spacer band which is 2mm x 2.5mm high and even that looks strange.

My house lighting is very dim and making a weird yellow-greenish color, so ignore that.

Also, in a couple of the pictures, I have a 2mm knife edge spacer in between.

Thanks for any advice. Please ignore my old, dry hands :(

It's a beautiful band, but I would want the heights to match, for both comfort and appearance.

Why did he do that? what's with the gap and extra band of gold at the bottom? Why didn't he just streamline it? Did you approve that cad?

I did approve the CAD but it looked nothing like this.

I would want lower for the eternity band.

I don't consider a 2mm band a "spacer" band. Thats too wide IMO, YMMV. If you like it that's fine though.
I would have the sides of it soften up more like your ering shank so it matched a little better.

The eternity band looks much higher than 2.7mm

I totally agree!! I also told him that the spacer needs to be 1-1.5mm and rounded on the edges so it matches the engagement ring band.

I honestly think he did a crappy job on both rings and I feel like I just want to return them.

I think it's beautiful. Most of my stacker vary a little in height and it doesn't bother "me". However, if it isn't what you wanted then I would have it corrected. I usually wear a spacer between my eternity and engagement ring because I worry about the stones rubbing on the setting. I wear a curved band between the two. It's really personal preference.

I do not understand why there is a gap under the diamonds. It could easily sit lower.

Thank you! I think if it’s lowered I would be happy with it. There is a lot of space under the stones on the eternity band, which makes no sense.

Your set is gorgeous:))

Considering you wanted all three rings to have fluidity and match in width - and had them custom made at roughly the same time, by the same jeweler - that is what you should have. And what you were given is decidedly not that.

He didn't even get the spacer right, and that should be simple enough. That he ignored your request for 1-1.5mm and made it 2mm makes no sense to me. How he reacts to you bringing it to his attention that he ignored your request and wants would help me to decide if I would want to return the two bands or have another go at getting what you asked for with him.

It stinks when you go custom to get a specific look and end up with something different, presumably because the jeweler ignores your requests/fails to communicate and not because what you want cannot be done (or does not suit the style of work the jeweler creates). In your case, I see no reason your vision could not have been executed. I, for one, would have wanted the same as you - bands matching in width, curvature, look-and-feel, with a very thin spacer (1-1.5mm).

Yes!! It looks like 3mm or more high.

I think this is because the diamonds are edge to edge so the 2.7mm high is 2.7 mm at the centre and edges. But your engagement band is curved in shape so it might be 2.5mm high at the centre but less high at the edges. At least that's what the photos look like to me.

He botched this whole job. I’d return for a refund and work with someone else.

Since you had the e-ring made already, you should frankly send it in when the bands are remade by someone else.

I am in the reverse situation, and had an eternity band already made, and existing wedding band, and am having a new engagement ring setting made. I had to send in the completed eternity, am having my wedding band modified at the same time by the same jeweler who is making my engagement ring setting. It’s the only way for them to be coherent. They need to have the full set in hand.

You’ll have to be patient and ship your ring, but you’ll have the lasting results of aesthetic harmony. It’s not fun, but it’s temporary.

Just my 2 cents

Thanks for everyone’s input. I am giving him ONE more chance to fix the rings. They were very apologetic and seemed sincere.

Hopefully they come out correct. I’ll show you all when they are done.

I really appreciate everyone’s comments. It’s helped a lot. :))

Dear Oval-Sweet Fie, first of all I am very sorry that you are not happy with your rings. However I would like to respectfully disagree with the previous posters. Your rings look nothing like a "botched job" to me. They are well done and look finely executed. Nevertheless I fully accept the fact that they might be not what you expected. Probably the key issue here will be to make a careful comparison between the CADs that you approved and raise that to the jeweler. I am sure that upon the discrepancy in the CADs and the final product he/she will be only obliged to correct this.

Thank you. They are re-doing the rings to better match my engagement ring. They have been very apologetic and told me they would fix any problems. I wanted it all to match more like a matching set. It was probably my fault that I didn’t look at the CADs closely enough. I really assumed that they would be perfect.

Yes, it looks tall. It looks exactly like the example you first posted in your other thread. Not all jewelers are actually custom jewelers. Many order stock settings and have their paid bench jewelers set stones in them. The jeweler may have said “yes, yes, yes” to get the order.

I am sorry you are displeased with the result of your eternity band. You should be happy. Here is my humble opinion with all due respect. I think what may be throwing off the look of the rings is the balance with the both rings. What I mean is your ER has a wider shank and is as wide if not wider than the EB. If it were me, I would change the ER setting to a thinner shank with a bit higher prong. You would then eliminate the need for the spacer band and not have to modify the custom EB whatsoever. I also think each ring would then compliment one another. Just mho.

This is great news. Please get the external diameter of your engagement ring measured. And send them that. This is what I do with all my rings. Because I am a fanatic about them matching. Sometimes this means I have to size up or down etc.
