Help! Is my diamond set correctly?

I need help! I’m not sure if my diamond is set right in this setting. It seems super high and like the basket isn’t made for the stone. My fiancé said the guy set the stone in the same day, so I fear it’s just a stock basket. I love the way it looks from the top, the side just bothers me for some reason, but I can’t figure out what’s wrong with it.

Also, I’ve been looking into getting the setting changed because I want my wedding band to sit flush with my ring. I’m not sure if this is possible while keeping the stone safe because of its size.

Any help/recommendations appreciated :) IMG_2733.jpegIMG_2734.jpeg

Hi @newlyengaged-needhelp and welcome to Pricescope. Your ring is beautiful; I really like the simple but classic-looking setting.

However the diamond looks high to my eye. Also, I don’t think a wedding ring will sit flush with this ring.

I don’t have enough knowledge to say if the basket is the correct size for your stone.

Yeah I don’t know exactly what’s going on there but it’s a very high stance.

Congratulations on your engagement @newlyengaged-needhelp !

I also would not be happy with the height of the stone. Just way too high.

To have a wedding ring set flush you are going to need a ring that does not have a donut (thats the part that sits on your
finger under the stone).

Here is a very large marquise that only has a little bump out in the donut area. See post #15

Another one...this one may be a little high

Here's a marquise thread if you just want to see what others have

Yes it's set sooooo high. I wouldn't be happy with the height, but the setting and stone look lovrly!

Height is a personal choice.
There will only be a very small gap between wedding ring and band.
A good bench jeweler can adjust one side inwards and make them sit perfectly flush.

More worrying is that there is no vee shape for the girdle to sit in - I would want an inspection of all the prongs to see if this is the same on any others as the stone could end up tilting. See the left side air gap:

I love the stone, not a fan of how high it’s set.

If you love the setting, I say talk to the jewler and see if the stone can be set lower… I worry about damage with it high. If you don’t love the setting, I would look for one you love. Erika Winters makes a gorgeous marquise setting… pricey, but she is a perfectionist and each setting is made for your stone. Her claw prongs with a marquise are so dreamy.
