They are very similar and I was leaning toward the Ls but I wanted to see what others thought.

Thank you!

I know we're talking about this in your other thread but as to spark a conversation here I'll say why I voted the way I did.

I think they need to be white to contrast the stone
I think smaller side stones make your center diamond look larger
I think the thin side stones will be less bulky and make the entire ring appear sleeker.

I vote the first ones as I prefer the proportions but I agree that this would look absolutely beautiful with colourless side stones, and maybe have the ring in white gold with a yellow gold head for the centre stone  love that look

*BOOM* took the words right out of my mouth!!! Totally agree!!!
:mrgreen2:

I really prefer the first pair for a couple of reasons:
1. I love the proportions!
1. I like that the pair appears to be the same color as your gorg center stone
2. You have a small ring finger and I think that these will provide you the right amount of coverage without making the ring too wide
3. The pair appears sparkler at least in the photo and the second one appears "windower" (see the left side stone, you can see through it)

Think this is the first time I've ever found myself disagreeing with Niel on such matters. i voted for #1 because I think those shields are very nicely suited to the size-shape of the center stone, and to my eye, the skinner side stones look like "flipper" appendages ; - )

@SimoneDi - there appears to also be a window in the top/right-hand shield in set #1. So I'm thinking that in both instances, these aren't true windows reflecting a faulty cut, but rather "tilt windows" that fleetingly come and go as the hand/finger moves & which in my experience seem almost inevitable with fancy shapes.

... and this is my warm combo: U-V OEC center stone with N french cut sides. I wanted to go lower with the sides but followed Victor's advice and it's a perfect match. The OEC faces up quite withe in some lighting conditions. The stones are set in platinum which I love:

Lordy that is a beautiful ring! Congratulations on it, it is stunning. I have had different varying colored stones recommended, anywhere from an M\N to several Ls and then this J pair. I have yet to make up my mind on the metal color. :(

Id happily vote a third option if one existed that was a fatter shape with white color but of the two I just can't get behind the color of this Ls

Someone said they match well before I'm not sure who but they are still clearly lik 5+ colors different. I guess I'm a fudy duddy who doesn't "get" why the L color goes with this o-p stone.

Plus I'm the cads made with this Ls I think it's very BIG and almost clunky looking.

You are not a fudy duddy, I appreciate the difference of opinions on this. Your argument made me wonder if I was making the right choice and should instead go even lighter on the the side stones since the color contrast is a big deal. I think I might ask for more photos on a black background just to get a better sense of it

Hard no on the Ls for me. I don't really like either pair honestly but the Js give more contrast. I think a large center stone with smaller sides needs a sharp contrast as opposed to a style like Acinoms ring where the center stone blends with the sides.

I am fond of the plan to match the colour of sides with the marquise, which the Ls do approximate...

Contrast is obviously much easier - with a colourless pair of sides.

It's been interesting to see the opinions of others be it either the color or just shape. I have asked for more photos of the pairs from a top down view so hopefully he can get them quickly, a video would be better but not sure if will send one. Here is the poll from weddingbee

I wish the poll included a 3rd option as I wonder how many choose based on color and not shape and vise versa

People do love the shape of those Ls!

Ditto Neil.

Third would have been traps and I just wasn’t happy with that blocky look. Still waiting on more photos, he said he would keep looking if I wanted him to but I do like the Ls but I’m also not willing to rush it

Well or a third option you haven't seen yet.

With a low color center stone in a 3 stone ring, I almost always prefer white sides to show the contrast. So my choice is the J pair, for the reasons Niel said. If your center stone was lighter in color like J or K, then that faces up so close to near colorless that I'd try to make all the stones match in color. But when it comes to a light yellow center stone, I am always going to choose white sidestones or a white halo for contrast. In the ring Acinom posted, that is different to me. I'd want stones set in the shank to match the center stone color.

Just realized that there is a ring in that style, set with a J-ish suite of French cuts & holding a large old style cushion that must be of similar colour to your diamond (an EGL 'M'). It does make a great example for how much contrast the J colour might provide in a bright cut - which the J sides you were presented with, could not claim.

The relevant thread:

The cushion is being sold now.

@Michelez

Out of those two the top one, but honestly I don't like either I'd have the stones either much whiter to contrast the centre even more or I'd have them a similar colour so they all look the same or fancy yellow cuts or coloured stones so again they would contrast the centre more.
